The Marguerite Centre provides a trauma-informed, holistic, women-centered approach to recovery from problematic substance use and gambling addiction. The Opportunity
The Overnight Residential Support Worker, in cooperation with other staff, is responsible for ensuring the safety of the women at The Marguerite Centre overnight. Residential Support Workers will work on rotation to ensure all shifts are covered. We are currently seeking one fulltime (average 40 hours per week over 2 week period) as well as several individuals to join our casual roster.
Primary Duties:
Client Services
Be awake, aware, and responsive for the entire shift.
Responsible for the safety and security of the residents as well as the facility in a single staffed environment.
Encourage good resident morale and ensure an atmosphere that is warm, positive, home-like, and respectful.
Support residents to effectively resolve conflict resolutions as needed.
Use effective crisis intervention techniques to assess, establish priorities, and intervene appropriately.
Ensure adherence to the resident medication schedule and that there is a record of all medication dosages.
Observe signs of illness and take appropriate action when required.
Socialize with residents as appropriate opportunities arise.
Ensure that the residents are up and dressed at the appropriate hour.
Conduct urine drug screen (UDS) testing, bag checks, and other client services.
Respond to crisis phone calls.
Administration:
Complete all assigned photocopying of program materials ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Complete all daily filing, ensuring all confidential materials are secured in the locked filing cabinet.
Document all voicemail messages and clear the voicemailbox each shift.
Fax documents for residents (application forms, MSI, taxes, Income Assistance, etc) as needed.
Cleaning and Building Maintenance:
Maintain a clean environment by clean common staff areas each shift (bathroom, back foyer, staff office) and perform other cleaning and home care tasks as assigned by the House and Property Coordinator. Clear snow and ice from walkways.
Complete regular walk through of the Centre; log any problems (e.g. plumbing, electrical) and take appropriate action.
Document and Inform Program Director, House and Property Coordinator, and/or Executive Director of any fire and safety issues or incident reports (e.g. Injury, a major behaviour change in a resident).
Other:
Adhere to trauma-informed, client-centered practices in alignment with the mission and vision of The Marguerite Center.
Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or G.E.D and one year experience in support care.
Knowledge of the issues that contribute to substance abuse (including alcohol and gambling) including, but not limited to, homelessness, physical and sexual abuse, low self-esteem, and the cycle of poverty and abuse.
Demonstrated ability to support conflict resolution and to react to crisis situations in a calm and appropriate manner ensuring the safety of the residents and staff.
Ability to establish of trust and understanding of the process of healing.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to exercise good judgement and make sound decisions.
Excellent ability to organize and multi-task.
Basic knowledge of MS Word, Microsoft 365, and Outlook.
Ability to work independently and within a team framework.
Experience working in an all-women setting is considered an asset.
Required Certifications:
Standard First Aid and CPR/AED Level A
Considered an asset:
Certification in NVCI (non-violent crisis intervention) or similar
ASIST training (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) or similar
Food Safety Certificate
A clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check must be provided and will be reviewed annually
