We are currently recruiting for the position of:

RESIDENTIAL RESOURCE WORKER



Specifically to support LGBTQ+ / Mik/Maq client - candidate must be Mik'Maq or LGBTQ+



Full time and Part time hours available (16 hours)

Location

: HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:



The successful candidate will carry out their responsibilities in a dynamic and changing environment under the direction of the Supervisor at Independent Living Nova Scotia. They will do so in accordance with Independent Living Nova Scotia Mandates and Philosophies, Code of Ethics and Policies and Procedures. This position provides physical assistance with the activities of daily living to adults living with physical disabilities.

The successful candidate will:

Assist participants with personal hygiene and all Activities of Daily Living Be a member of the LGBTQ+ or Mik'Maq Community Provide attendant care services including transferring, lifting, bathing, communication assistance, assistance eating, and personal care to Consumers. able to remain on their feet for extended periods of time and be able to assist with transfers and lifts. Maintain a professional and respectful manner at all times in the performance of duties, which includes housekeeping, assistance with pet care, etc. Accompany Participants in community Protect and promote the welfare, dignity and individual rights of Consumers at all times. Adhere to the goals, policies, Vision and Mission of ILNS while performing your duties Ensure safe work practices are being followed at all times including Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) protocols and the use of protective personal equipment (PPE). Comply with organizational health and safety policies and protocols including reporting up to Management about health and safety concerns. Complete and submit documentation as required (i.e. incident reports, accident reports) in a timely manner. Perform other duties related to the participants Individual Service Plans. MUST be available for a variety of shifts. We are hiring for several positions. Specifically Overnights and weekend work.

QUALIFICATIONS:



Must be resident of Canada and eligible to work lived experience with LGBTQ+ or Mik Maq community

Grade XII plus post-secondary education in a Human Services field would be an asset One year paid or volunteer experience in the Human Services field would be an asset Commitment to social inclusion, inclusive community living, and the Independent Living Philosophy. Experience supporting adults with physical disabilities and following their direction in meeting their daily support requirements Effective communication in a professional manner at all levels within the organization and an ability to liaise with key partners including; families, professionals, and other agencies to ensure participants are well supported in their daily lives. The ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. The ability to coach and support cueing to ensure that all daily living and community activities are completed The ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a fast paced environment. Previous knowledge of non-violent behaviour and crisis intervention would be an asset Strong organization and record keeping skills. Positive ability to work within a team. Must have values and skills compatible with the type and level of support required. A valid Nova Scotia driver's license & clean driving record is not required but extra hours available if you have a license
Core Competencies training will be provided to successful candidates who do not already possess current certificates. Core Competencies are: Fire & Life Safety, Health & Personal Care, Medication Awareness, Individual Program Planning, Crisis Intervention, Behavioural Supports, Standard First Aid/ CPR-C) & food handler's certificate

COMPENSATION:



$18.00 - 21.07 per hour; Full time and Part-time positions available. Passive overnight shifts are available as well. Benefits include Medical, dental, EAP, and RRSP employer contributions. Paid sick and vacation time annual allowance

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:



Scheduling is based on a 4-week rotational schedule including evenings, weekends, and overnight shifts.
