Board Chair
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for the overall leadership and management of Ian Anderson House (IAH), including the development, delivery and evaluation of programs and services. Represent IAH in relationships with community and other external partners.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Board Relations
Collaborate with the Board of Directors to prepare strategic plans and annual objectives
Develop annual budget for Board approval
Prepare periodic reports for review by the Board
Attend Board meetings as required
Operations
Manage the day-to-day operations of IAH
Promote teamwork and facilitate open communication among employees, agency staff, volunteers and the Board
Review, develop, implement and evaluate organizational policies and procedures required for effective program delivery
Ensure that the requirements of IAH's accountability agreement with Ontario Health are met
Monitor and evaluate the performance of agencies providing nursing and PSW staff
Support the efforts of the Volunteer Coordinator in recruitment, performance monitoring and recognition activities
Participate in fundraising initiatives in collaboration with the Events Coordinator
Connect with and provide support to staff on evenings, weekends and holidays as required
Share on-call duties with Home Coordinators for any clinical/staffing issues that may arise
Human Resources
Recruit, direct, organize, train and develop, motivate, supervise, and formally evaluate the work of IAH clinical and administrative staff
Maintain a positive, healthy and safe work environment
Oversee the implementation of Human Resources policies, procedures and practices
Review and approve staff time sheets
Conduct performance reviews for all staff
Develop and review job descriptions for all positions
Provide opportunities for professional/personal development of staff and volunteers
Provide opportunities for staff debriefing
Community & External Relations
Represent IAH at community and professional activities to enhance the organization's community profile, performing speaking engagements as required
Develop and manage relationships with donors and coordinate completion of funding applications
Identify, develop and maintain collaborative, cooperative, and effective partnerships with other hospices, community health care partners, Ontario Health Teams and Ontario Health
Quality, Safety & Risk Management
Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation
Identify areas for quality improvement and risk mitigation for Board review
Implement appropriate corrective and preventive action
Professional Development
Keep current with trends in hospice palliative care
Build relationships with professional colleagues
Participate in opportunities for professional/personal growth
Other
Lead and participate in staff meetings
Attend IAH and third-party fundraising events
Perform, support and assist with the Home Coordinator role as required

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, nursing, social work, business management, or a related field (Master's degree or higher preferred)
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior management or leadership role, ideally within a healthcare, hospice or non-profit setting
Strong clinical background or significant experience in clinical operations
Experience in palliative and/or end-of-life care preferred
Experience in overseeing budgets
