Residential Counsellor

Job Type: 8-12 Full-time (77-80hrs/2weeks), 3-4 Part-time (48-60 hrs/2weeks), 1-3 Casual/Reserve - We are willing to provide on the job training.

Responsibilities and Duties

As part of a team you:

Support Participants (adults with intellectual/physical disabilities) at home and in the community

Teach, supervise, and support all activities of daily living

Encourage and organize activities that contribute to skill development, socialization, and fun

Transport Participants in organizational vehicles

Build positive, healthy relationships in the workplace

Minimum Qualifications

Preferred: University degree or a graduate of a recognized Human Services or related program such as CCA.

We are willing to provide on the job training.



Asset: Possession or willingness to obtain all 7 Provincial Core Competencies (Fire & Life Safety, Health & Personal Care, Medication Awareness, Individual Program Planning, Crisis Intervention, Behavioural Supports, Standard First Aid/ CPR-C) & Food Handler's certificate)

Asset: Experience working with or supporting people living with a physical and/or intellectual disability

Demonstrated experience developing appropriate relationships in a helping or supporting capacity

Effective oral and written communication skills

Asset: Alternative communication abilities

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Valid NS Driver's License

Possession or willingness to obtain Class 4 driver's license, must have a Class 5.

Acceptable Driving record/abstract

Suitable Criminal Records Check & Vulnerable Sector Search
