Job Description

Position Overview

Provide screening for people entering the Homes for COVID-19, assist with visits to residents of the Long-Term Care Home and provide support to residents within scope as requested.

Duties and Responsibilities

Screening:

  • Ensure everyone entering the Home answers the COVID-19 screening questions
  • Provide required PPE to anyone entering the Home
  • Track the contact information for people entering the Home
Visits:
  • Complete daily schedules for visits and distribute to neighbourhoods
  • Set-up visiting area
  • Assist residents to and from visits
  • Monitor and provide support during visit
  • Clean and sanitize visiting area before/after each visit
Neighbourhood Support:
  • Make beds and change linens
  • Tidy rooms and ensure areas are clear of debris, dishes, glasses, etc.
  • Clean and label residents\' belongings
  • 1:1 visits with residents
  • Distribute fresh linen to rooms for next day
  • Assist with mechanical lift as 2nd person
  • Answer call bells and follow up with nursing for residents
  • Porter residents (e.g. meals)
  • Provide assistance with mealtimes (excluding high risk residents)
  • Clear dining room after resident meals
  • Assist team in retrieving supplies
  • Cleaning high touch surfaces
  • Other non-nursing duties as assigned
Rapid Antigen Testing:
  • Assist/supervise specimen collection using the recommended swabbing technique
  • Follow Infection Control Protocol specifically related to donning and doffing PPE and handling and disposing of specimens
  • Ensuring individuals perform proper hand hygiene and sanitization as required between specimen gathering
  • Ensuring accurate documentation including requisitions and specimen labels and reports test results as required
  • Interacting with visitors, employees, colleagues and managers in a professional and friendly manner
  • Perform duties with discretion and professionalism at all times
General:
  • Incumbents must keep up-to-date on all County Policies and Procedures, etc. ensuring that these are implemented as prescribed
  • Complete all mandatory in services/Surge Learning Modules
  • Incumbents must possess the physical ability to meet the duties and responsibilities of the job description and/or the requirements identified within the position\'s Physical Demands Analysis

Resident Care Assistants will not:
  • Feed residents in rooms 1 to 1
  • Feed high risk residents
  • Provide personal care, which includes:

\xef\x82\xa7 Toileting residents unless acting as 2nd person for lift
\xef\x82\xa7 Assist with personal hygiene
\xef\x82\xa7 Document any resident information into the electronic record
\xef\x82\xa7 Dress residents at risk of falling

Qualifications

Minimum Formal Education:
  • Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
