Assist in providing nursing care under the direction and supervision of a R.N. or L.P.N.
REGULAR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist residents at the time of admission to the Home.
Attend report at the beginning of each shift.
Attend and participate in Multidisciplinary Resident Care Conferences.
Accompany and assist residents to and from various areas of the Home.
Accompany and assist residents to and from Health Facilities and services as well as other outings outside the Home.
Serve and distribute meal trays, liquids and lunches.
Feed and assist residents as required.
Answer residents call system.
Label clothing and personal possessions.
Answer telephone - receive and relay messages.
Perform miscellaneous messenger services.
Make up beds, move beds and equipment, water flowers and set room in order.
Clean and maintain, in a neat and orderly manner, resident's bedside and over bed tables, bureaus, wardrobes and chairs.
Assist and transport residents to activities.
Strip bed and room of discharged residents, and set up after cleaning.
Give bed, tub, sponge, sitz or whirlpool baths and back rubs as required.
Provide washing, teeth grooming and personal hygienic care services as required.
Measure intake and output and report to supervisor.
Pass, collect, clean and disinfect bedpans and urinals.
Clean and disinfect bathtubs after use.
Collect urine, stool and sputum specimens as required.
Restock supplies for bedside units.
Observe changes in resident's conditions and report observations to immediate supervisor.
Provide physical assistance to residents in moving and getting positioned in bed; getting in and out of bed; transfer from bed to chair and back; walking; exercising; dressing and undressing, and all other activities of daily living.
Encourage and assist with resident mobility.
Record residents nursing care activities as directed.
Use Hoyer lifts or other similar equipment for transfer of residents.
Measure and record height and weight of residents.
Apply fracture boards, foot boards and other similar equipment to beds.
Assist with reality orientation program and other similar programs.
Care and cleaning of wheelchairs.
Distribute linen and/or residents clothing to residents room.
Dispose of soiled linen, Tena Products, and resident's personal clothing into proper containers.
Assist in the transportation and lifting of heavy residents.
Demonstrate proper use of resident restraints.
Apply isolation techniques and terminal disinfection.
Assist residents with prosthesis and mechanical aids.
Maintain good public relations with residents, resident's families and the community.
Maintain a good working relationship with other employees.
SPECIAL DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES
Participate as a team player in coordinating care plans for the resident.
Participate in B.I.F. program for proper utilization of transfers and lifts for resident.
Participate in Nursing Home Committees as directed.
To provide input into projects that requires team work and coordination of all departments.
May assist in the orientation of new employees
Attend all in-services lectures, discussions or meetings as directed.
May operate and clean nursing equipment.
Participate in current training program to work on specialized units.
May include other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
High School graduation or equivalent, plus an additional course in Personal Support
Worker or Health Care Aid Course or equivalency.
Decision making - uses discretion in solutions to issues or problems selected on how to best provide resident care or services. i.e. individual or group activity
Ability to work effectively and efficiently in all job duties and responsibilities.
Must demonstrate a high degree of initiative and confidentiality.
Supervisory skills - perform some of the normal supervisory responsibilities
Physically able to perform all assigned duties
Neat and clean in appearance
Good previous work record
Energetic personality that shares a passion for seniors
