The Workshop Instructor is responsible for developing an engaging, hands-on, interdisciplinary approach to teaching art and design, focusing on independent research, prompt-based learning and portfolio development inspired by participants' time in Toronto.Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Create a 3-week intensive course that mimes a place-based learning theme and includes hands-on studio art and design modules.
  • Prepare presentations, handouts, or visual support materials that are accessible and relevant to course delivery and that address participants' various needs, levels, characteristics, and learning styles.
  • Design a syllabus that embeds accessibility into the delivery of the course, including daily lesson plans, topics, themes, or other valuable and relevant learning resources.
  • Provide guidance and instruction across art and design disciplines appropriate for diverse pre-college learners, including developing a body of new work for portfolio development.
  • Develop demos and workshops that are thematic and prompt-based and that encourage learners to respond from their areas of program interest.
  • Lead and participate in group critique, portfolio work review, and feedback that is accessible and culturally sensitive and meets the needs of postsecondary admissions requirements.
  • Plan and organize a culminating group exhibition or showcase
Qualifications:
  • Experience developing art and design workshops for pre-college learners that are inclusive and accessible, including demonstrated experience instructing youth in community or institution setting
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with a care-focused and relational approach to teaching
  • Ability to work in collaboration and an aptitude for developing and delivering innovative curriculum
  • A demonstrated commitment to inclusive and accessible teaching practices and principles of equity and diversity promoting a respectful work and learning environment for students, staff and faculty
  • Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is an asset
  • Flexibility in work hours; must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends, as required
Compensation: $65.00 per hour inclusive of vacation payHours of Work: Hiring two (2) positions at 38 hours of contact instruction and 20 hours of prep each for this appointment. Specific schedules and hours of work will be determined in consultation with the supervisor. This temporary contract is expected to begin April 1, 2025, and conclude July 25, 2025.Application Information:
