About the Position

The Residence Life Coordinator is a member of the Student Affairs team and is responsible for implementing a series of student event campaigns that align with student needs identified in student surveys, feedback, best practices and current research on student development. This person will employ a collaborative and integrated approach to coordinating and aligning activities within Lethbridge College (Accessibility Services, Academics, Athletics, Career and Academic Advising, Indigenous services, International, LCSA, Learning Caf\xc3\xa9, Residence Life, Wellness Services, etc.). Collaboration between departments creates a robust student life experience at Lethbridge College.

This person will lead and develop student staff, Residence Assistants (RAs) as community builders, demonstrating confidentiality and understanding of the needs for students living and studying away from home. The RA team will be guided in implementing creative and innovative programming needs for weekly socials and Residence wide events for those living on campus.

As a result of this work, students will experience a series of events and activities based on themes aligned with the student/academic cycle. This person will be responsible for researching and planning with a mindset to exceed best practices for Residence Life programming. This position is also key in recruiting future residents by developing strategies which demonstrate that Residences on campus is the housing of choice for students.

In addition to building a Residence Community through events, this role is also responsible for holding students accountable to Community Standards outlined in the Residence LIfe Handbook. Utilizing the student conduct platform, Guardian this role will review and update reports. The Residence Life Coordinator is responsible for helping mediate roommate relationships, informing and educating about the rules and impacts of behaviours on the community as well as recommending sanctions. Processes are in place as a guideline, however research and creativity in best practices for developing a student community is required. A great deal of empathy, diplomacy, and fairness must be utilized as the focus for sanctioning is to provide an educational component, promote a healthy, safe, and caring community on campus. An integral part of Residence Conduct is education campaigns that this position will be create and reviewed annually.

Primary outreach duties include support promotion of events and awareness week campaigns through various mediums including an online calendar and social media. Supporting Residence Life events, Student Affairs events and campus wide initiatives that build rewarding experiences for Lethbridge College students.

Some on call, evening and weekend work will be required.
Position Details

  • Supervision of 8-12 student staff Residence Assistants, up to 3 May-August
  • Research, planning, promotion and implementation of student life / outreach activities in Residence and on campus, including purchasing required supplies
  • Liaise with Student Affairs and other departments to provide exceptional student life opportunities for residents and greater college populations
  • Develop resident orientation programming and roommate relationships guide, opportunities for building student connections based on interests and themes. Maintain a continuous evaluation and improvement mindset
  • Update calendar, event promotion, Residence newsletter and social media messaging, passive programming (bulletin boards)
  • Other related Residence Life duties
Required Qualifications
  • Undergrad degree in a related field
  • Proficiency of MS Office and social media
  • Exceptional organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to gather information from multiple sources and then work independently
  • Self-motivated, innovative, and creative
  • Researching and assessment skills
  • Promotions, event planning, and social media experience
Preferred Qualifications

Lethbridge College Student Affairs identified competency expectations at a minimum \xe2\x80\x9ccapable\xe2\x80\x9d level. These include Accountability, Communication, Creativity & Innovation, Customer Focus, Leadership, Personal Development, and Relationships.
Salary AUPE Class Level 8 Step 1 $45,490.72 per annum.
