The primary purpose of the Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) position is to plan, implement and critically analyze the Residence Education components of Residence Services' operations. In particular, the RLC supports student success by fostering healthy and engaging student communities, connecting students with various resources and the broader campus, and holding accountable students who disrupt or undermine those efforts. The RLC is primarily responsible for Residence Education Team (RET) operations in an assigned building or area. The RLC also shares responsibility with peers for RET operations that span multiple buildings or areas. This position reports to the PI.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
(job functions include but are not limited to):
Recruit, select, train and supervise 62 Community Advisors (CAs), 7 Senior CAs and 1 Training and Orientation Facilitator
Attend and participate in regular departmental meetings (CA meetings, Residence Students' Association meetings, staff meetings)
Participate in campus and residence committees that affect Residence students
Uphold the Residence Community Standards
Aid in and oversee the development and presentation of programs for student and community development
Attend all emergency calls and make appropriate calls for assistance as needed
Administer community evaluations to determine student needs and concerns
Maintain regular office hours
Work with individual students to resolve conflict and address concerns
Perform administrative duties as directed to support the Housing Services and Residence Education Team
Qualifications / Requirements:
Undergraduate degree required, with a concentration in a related field strongly preferred; a combination of education and experience may be considered
At least two years of experience as a resident advisor / community advisor in higher education residence is required
At least one year of experience in a senior resident advisor / community advisor in higher education housing is preferred
Professional and/or graduate degree in a related field preferred
Experience managing conflict, criticism and contentious issues required
Experience working in a campus residence environment is required
Experience interacting with demanding customers or clients strongly required
Experience supporting and/or facilitating student success strongly required
Experience responding to emergencies or urgent / distressing situations strongly required
Demonstrated experience planning and implementing major initiatives in alignment with broader organizational priorities
Demonstrated experience managing objectives that may only be achieved gradually, after revisiting tasks or re-engaging other stakeholders multiple times
Demonstrated highly effective verbal, written and cross-cultural communication skills
Demonstrated highly effective documentation, organizational and administrative skills
Demonstrated highly effective computer skills and an aptitude for quickly adapting to make the best use of new software
Demonstrated aptitude for effectively supervising young adults
Demonstrated aptitude for motivating and coaching students from diverse backgrounds
Demonstrated aptitude for managing ambiguity and adapting to change
Valid driver's license strongly preferred. In order to operate a University vehicle safely, employees must have a valid driver's license for the type of vehicle they are driving, a minimum class 5 driver's license with no current suspensions and fewer than six (6) demerits. Not have a graduated (GDL), learner's, probationary, or motorcycle/moped only license. A current Driver's Abstract must be provided on request.
