Position Overview The Resettlement Support Worker provides critical support for RAP Counsellors in their work of settlement assistance, application support, practical guidance, and community referrals to newcomer clients at Newcomer Connections. The Resettlement Support Worker position will assist RAP Counsellors in a variety of ways as directed by the Resettlement Supervisor and Resettlement Team Lead. Evening and weekend work may be required on occasion. This position sits on the Newcomer Support Services team and reports to Resettlement Supervisor.
Core Responsibilities
  • Assist RAP Counsellors with client connections to and in community services and opportunities;
  • Work as directed by Resettlement Supervisor and Resettlement Team Lead to assist clients with significant settlement barriers;
  • Assist RAP Counsellors with duties and responsibilities to community partners;
  • Support RAP team arrival services
  • Support RAP team temporary accomodations services
  • Support RAP team volunteer liason services
  • Work with RAP Counsellors to book appointments for newcomers, and accompany clients to the appointments if needed;
  • Communicate with clients as requested by RAP Cousellors regarding Information & Orientation sessions or meetings;
  • Assist the RAP team with document handling and paperwork during peak arrival periods of government-assisted refugees;
  • Assist RAP Counsellors with data for reporting;
  • Complete monthly expenses;
  • Attend staff meetings;
  • Perform duties as assigned by the Manager, Newcomer Support Services and GM, Newcomer and Community Connections

Skills and Qualifications
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Fluent English language ability, knowledge of other languages is a great asset
  • Valid drivers license and reliable vechicle is a great asset
  • Approachable and possessing a strong client-centric attitude
  • Heightened sensitivity to the needs of our immigrant community
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational and inter-personal skills

Required
  • Candidates are required to provide full proof of vaccination against COVID-19, or a valid medical certificate exempting them from the vaccine.
  • Employment is contingent on having a clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search along with clearance from the Department of Social Development.
