Overview

Reporting to the Mining and Reserve Manager, the Reserve and Mining Engineer will work in a team environment to provide technical leadership and support to the businesses to help create and maintain life of operation mine plans and management of the reserve position to ensure sustainable reserves and optimized mining at the company\xe2\x80\x99s sites

Responsibilities

Health & Safety

  • Actively promote and participate in company safety programs, projects, and behavior.
WCAN Land & Resource Strategic Priorities
  • Participate in the development of various Strategic Plans and align efforts to help achieve their goals
  • Support the design and participate in field testing, assessment of sites, drilling campaigns and review their related data and documents.
  • Participate in site development CAPEX as well as due diligence of potential reserve acquisitions and greenfields.
  • Lead the development of Western Canada mining and reserve tools, standards, methodologies and best practices and actively help the businesses with implementation
  • Work closely with quarry managers to develop and execute robust mine plans
Reserve & Mine Plan Management, Assessment & Reporting
  • Support the quantification, documentation and publishing of accurate Reserve estimates for all properties and their periodic review
  • Lead the quantification of reclamation liabilities and work with the businesses to ensure adequate funding
  • Acquire, develop, analyze, and maintain data, maps, drawings, topo, aerials, documents, and files necessary to provide accurate reserve assessments and mine plans.
  • Support the business in the development of short and intermediate term operational (ie stripping) plans for aggregate sites in the context of the Mine Plan.
  • Ensure accurate mining and reserve data is documented in the Land Information System and in a supporting organized file system.
Mentorship and Stakeholder Support
  • Participate and contribute to the Land Management team in its organization, operations and implementation of Land Management best practices.
  • Applies knowledge of aggregate mining industry to identify improvement opportunities concerned with land management, environment and operational challenges.
  • Additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Results/Accountabilities
  • Accurate, Economical, and Sustainable Reserve position and Mine Plans
  • Organization of reserve and mining data, documents, and soft copy files.
  • Verifiable reserve and mining plan management data and documentation.
  • Value-added exploration and analysis of acquisition reserves and greenfields.
  • Cost effective Mining Plans that optimize the Reserve
  • Mentor the development of Operations and Land staff as it pertains to mine planning and management.
Relationships with Others Jobs
  • Report to the Mining & Reserve Manager
  • Team with Regional Land Managers and GIS Specialist
  • Works closely with General Managers, Operations Managers, and Site Superintendants
  • Liaisons with Senior Management, Environment, Finance and other departments.
  • Liaisons with corporate group teams such as performance and environment
Qualifications

Education and Work Experience
  • University degree in geology, civil engineering, mining engineering or related experience
  • 3-5 years relevant experience in managing engineering technical services and support, preferably in direct or related mining field
Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of mining methods and appropriate planning techniques.
  • General knowledge of geology pertaining to aggregates.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to learn and utilize appropriate Mine Planning software
  • Problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with state, provincial, and governmental regulations as well as material specifications.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Certifications
  • Professional geology/engineering certification
Dimensions
  • Working as part of the mining team, collectively provide support for over 200 site.
  • Supervises related consultants, subcontractors and suppliers
  • Works on multiple sites, projects, and activities directly at any given time.
  • Interacts with and influences other functional areas.
  • Travel is anticipated at 30% and will vary from time to time.
