Job Description

We are seeking an exceptional Research Technician to join our leading-edge neuroscience research team at Sunnybrook Research Institute in Toronto, Canada, in the laboratory of Dr. Isabelle Aubert. Summary of Duties:




1. Tissue Collection




a.

Perform mouse perfusions, organ harvesting, and brain dissection.




2. Histology and Imaging




a. Prepare, section and stain mouse brain, spinal cord and other tissue for imaging.


b. Conduct immunohistochemistry and RNAscope experiments.


c. Acquire and analyze images using advanced microscopy (e.g., Leica Stellaris 5 and related software).




3. Molecular Biology




a. Extract DNA and RNA from tissue specimens.


b. Perform and analyze qPCR, Western blots, immunoprecipitations, ELISAs.




4. Tissue Culture




a. Primary culture of oligodendrocytes and neural stem cells.


b. Prepare the necessary growth medium and supplies.




5. General




a. Maintain detailed records and documentation of experiments, procedures and results.


b. Comply with laboratory safety protocols (BSL2) and ethical standards.


c. Expertise in using Microsoft Office, image editing software, and statistical tools, particularly GraphPad Prism.


d. Knowledge of the brain anatomy, neuroscience, and disorders of aging




Qualifications:




Master of Science in Neuroscience, Biology, Biomedical Engineering or a related field. Proficiency in histology, including brain tissue processing, cryostat or microtome sectioning, staining and slide preparation. Expertise in immunohistochemistry and RNAscope techniques, particularly in rodent models. Hands-on experience with tissue culture methods. * Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
