Dr. Yi-Chun Chen (YCC) is seeking a Research Technician (Open Rank: Entry to Senior) to join the research laboratory located at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Canada. The lab studies endocrine cell adaptation during the development of metabolic diseases. They use cell biology, biochemistry, sequencing, imaging, and mouse models to study peptide hormone biosynthesis, processing, secretion, and clearance. The Chen Lab welcomes applications from both entry-level and experienced candidates.


Primary Purpose:

As a Research Technician, you'll help support a wide range of projects in the lab, with a focus on preclinical animal studies. Your main responsibilities will include managing transgenic mouse colonies, performing surgeries and metabolic tests, and collecting tissues for histological analysis. While full training will be provided to help you feel confident and capable in your role, this is a hands-on position that requires a willingness and ability to work with mice in an ethical and responsible manner. You'll also help with ordering lab supplies, organize the lab, and conducting bench work, including biochemical assays and tissue culture. Depending on experience level, you may also take on responsibilities in project coordination, with opportunities to grow professionally in a collaborative and innovative research environment.


Typical Duties and Accountabilities:



Perform mouse-based experiments, including injections, surgeries, metabolic assays, tissue collection, and transgenic colony management Carry out basic bench procedures such as Western blotting, DNA extraction, PCR, immunostaining, imaging, ELISAs, and tissue culture Maintain accurate and detailed records of experimental results: prepares graphs and reports as needed Participate in lab meetings and contributes to planning sessions Work efficiently and collaboratively with a team of researchers across a range of research projects Provide general operational and organizational support to help maintain a safe, clean, and well-organized laboratory environment

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in life sciences or a related field. Minimum of 1 years of experience in a laboratory setting is required.
