These efforts are essential to help government better serve African Nova Scotians.ansa.novascotia.cahttps://cch.novascotia.ca/About Our OpportunityThe Research and Statistical Officer is responsible for providing recommendations and advice on African Nova Scotian affairs based on research, statistics, data and analysis so that more informed decisions are made.Primary AccountabilitiesIn this position, duties include:

  • Providing recommendations for program delivery based on the analysis on research by collecting assorted background information and data, analyzing and presenting options for program and policy development, by providing advice on broader government research and data, identifying deficiencies in datasets, and recommending actions to address the deficiencies.
  • Collecting and presenting information/data to ensure a more comprehensive perspective which is required for success in program delivery and policy implementation by developing position papers, undertaking research projects to collect anecdotal evidence, and qualitative data, and by developing research proposals for studies.
  • Ensuring African Nova Scotian concerns are being addressed by reporting on gaps in government services to African Nova Scotians, and preparing documentation to augment documents, reports, or media communiques by maintaining and reporting on the data and other sources of information.
  • Building relationships, gathering information, and sharing resources by communicating via regular e-mails with the African Nova Scotian community, maintaining the ANSA client database, maintaining, and developing content for ANSA website, representing the division at meetings and workshops and by liaising with other levels of government and external groups.
  • Supporting internal and external clients by making recommendations based on analysis of the research, and by facilitating the connections between organizations and resources.
Qualifications and ExperienceTo be successful in this role you have a Bachelors\' degree plus 5 years related experience, an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.You must have strong background in all aspects of data analysis, including planning, executing, and summarizing complex data requests. You also have significant experience providing sound advice, informing policy and program development using evidence-based approaches driven by data.You will have demonstrated project leadership and advanced interpersonal and leadership skills to work within a collaborative and creative team environment and be willing to put forward ideas and suggestions that are innovative and may include a degree of risk.You have strong communication skills, and superior writing skills (written and verbal) with proven experience in working with clients to document requirements, create reports, and deliver presentations.You are extremely comfortable with a wide variety of software and be adept at learning new software packages. Advanced excel skills are mandatory.
