TRIUMF's Life Sciences Division is currently seeking a Research Scientist to be a driving force in the medical physics program at TRIUMF, both in hardware, simulation and analysis, as well as other opportunities. The current focus is on dosimetry, treatment planning and new radiotherapy modalities for Targeted Radiation Therapy as well as External Beam Therapy.
The position requires the incumbent to represent and promote TRIUMF through the research program via international collaborations, publications, conferences, committees and forums. The position expects the incumbent to support their research activities through research grants obtained from funding agencies in Canada and internationally. The incumbent will grow the current program and establish new directions in collaboration with other researchers of the Life Sciences, Accelerator Sciences and Physical Sciences Division as well as local and international partners.
The successful candidate will be expected to train students and postdocs, and work with technical staff at TRIUMF. In the long term they are also encouraged to develop new initiatives in TRIUMF's Life Sciences program. Such efforts may include developments and applications of new experimental techniques, analyses and hardware.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbentprovides intellectual leadership in TRIUMF's scientific program and medical physics as a Board Appointed Employee (BAE) research scientist,
works collaboratively with the Life Sciences leadership team to help define and accomplish the divisions objectives/milestones,
interacts with the international and Canadian community to foster further collaboration,
participates in the training of undergraduate, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows and others,
carries out research that enables the division to deliver on its objectives along with the priorities of its program of work,
actively participates in the strategic planning process of the division to define the science goals and strategies of the division,
contributes to the division and the laboratory by filling various service functions,
ensures that the safety and quality standards are consistent with the TRIUMF standard operating procedures,
interacts with professional organizations of scientists using the TRIUMF facilities,
maintains own research projects and apply for NSERC or other funding grants.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:Critical scientific thought and effective experimental strategy are necessary as the program grows to maintain the status of TRIUMF as a national centre of excellence in Canada and a recognized site of high-calibre research on the international stage.
Effective problem solving is required for the decisions and issues encountered day-to-day.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential requirements to be effective in the role.
The incumbent is expected to have excellent relationship building skills, demonstrated leadership qualities and the ability to delegate.
Excellent scientific writing skills are required for authoring of publications and grant applications. Project management skills are essential, as well as sound judgment when assigning and prioritizing tasks.
NUCLEAR ENERGY WORKER:
The position requires the incumbent to be trained as a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW). The successful candidate will be required to successfully complete the TRIUMF in-house radiation safety training course and be designated as a TRIUMF NEW.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
The incumbent must have PhD in experimental physics, medical physics preferred, and several years of post-doctoral experience.
Salary Range: $101,000 - 112,000 based on a 35-hour work week
