- This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at North Campus Edmonton. Travel within Alberta is required for this position.
The Department of Emergency Medicine is looking for a Research Project Coordinator. This person will work with the Principal Investigator on a research program focused on equity in emergency care, and will also contribute to the team's research and educational activities. The research program contains a portfolio of competitively funded provincial projects utilizing mixed methods to examine inequity in health care and health care access. Topics of study relate to Indigenous patients' emergency care, opioid use disorder treatment, COVID-19 disruptions to healthcare, and anti-racist intervention research. The successful candidate will contribute to fostering strong relationships and collaboration across internal and external disciplines and partners.
Reporting to the Academic Department Manager (ADM), and supervised by the Principal Investigator and the Research Associate, the Research Project Coordinator (RPC) coordinates and administers research study associated activities. The RPC assists in project planning, and ensures that pre-established work scope, study protocol, and regulatory requirements are followed. The RPC recruits and coordinates research participants, collects data, and serves as principal administrative liaison for the project. The RPC provides administrative services to the investigators; develops and maintains record keeping systems and procedures.

Research Project Implementation
Plan and coordinate the initiation of research study protocol, and the establishment of operating policies and procedures, ensuring that all are compliant with University guidelines and policies, TCPS2, and research agreements with project partners.
Prepares research ethics board application amendments as required.
Plans, implements, and maintains data collection and analysis systems in support of research protocol; coordinates the collection and analysis of research data.
Communicates with partners and stakeholderst about project progress.
Maintains accurate records of data collection activities, safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects.
Gather literature and other research materials.
Contribute to writing research manuscripts for publication
Contribute to writing and submitting conference abstracts
Comply with First Nations Ownership, Control, Access to, and Possession of data principles (OCAP) where applicable
Analysis/Dissemination
Accurately track analytic results.
Perform qualitative coding.
Perform quantitative analysis and reporting.
Present results at project stakeholder/partner/team meetings.
Produce dissemination materials such as posters, ppt slides, and other education materials.
We are seeking applicants whose knowledge, understanding, and lived experience with Indigenous communities in Canada provide the foundation for interacting with trust, care, and sensitivity with Indigenous patients in the Emergency Department and in First Nations Communities within Alberta.
Minimum Qualifications
Post-secondary degree in a related field, e.g. social sciences, Indigenous studies, public health. Graduate degree preferred.
Experience using qualitative research methods.
Quantitative methods training and experience conducting quantitative analysis
Strong data management skills
Excellent organization and time management skills; ability to work independently.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
Demonstrated strong communication, team and customer service skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
Strong analytical, critical thinking, organization, and leadership skills
Demonstrated ability for professional report writing
Technical competencies:
Computer Competency, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
Knowledge of statistical programs such as R, SAS, SPSS would be an asset.
Valid Driver's license.
Physical and environmental requirements:
Travel required, including long distances by road and/or small plane.
Occasional evening and weekend work schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of Indigenous cultural protocols is an asset
Experience in community-based participatory and intervention research will be an asset
Experience utilizing ethnography, participant observation or other observational research methods preferred
Experience working with Indigenous organizations or community-based organizations is an asset
Knowledge of Indigenous research methods, critical theory, anti-racism theory, institutional ethnography, and/or postcolonial theory is an asset
