The Opportunity

Having a broad scope of knowledge around the research enterprise within an academic health research institution, the Research Operations Specialist is a member of the RSO team providing specialized, effective and efficient services supporting the identification, development and dissemination of operational processes in the administration of research.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure the development of strong and sustainable \xe2\x80\x9chow to\xe2\x80\x9d processes within the RSO to ensure operational compliance and oversees regularized updates as needed.
  • Conduct reviews of current processes and operational systems to identify opportunities and undertake initiatives with a focus on streamlining processes.
  • Incorporate processes to engage and support work with institutional partners such as health authorities, academic institutions, government and industry.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities to enhance the effectiveness of policies, processes and systems in the RSO.
  • Write and edit targeted communications to support implementation of processes including Website development.
  • Develop an inventory of guidance information packages for RSO clients to operational research within the IWK Health.
  • Provide education on navigating the administration and service requirements to conduct research within IWK Health and in alignment with our partner institutions.
  • Responsible for the delivery of the Research Review (internal audit) Process.
  • Identify, communicate and implement best practices and policies, in keeping with regulatory requirements, which may impact on administrative processes/obligations to be undertaken.
  • Assist leadership in external audits or reviews, e.g. Health Canada, National Institutes of Health, accreditation.
  • Work closely with Director and Manager, Research Operations, aid in the implementation of a variety of high priority, multi-faceted projects within the RSO and assist with other duties as required.
Hours of Work

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week. This is a Hybrid (work-from-home) position.

Your Qualifications
  • A degree from an accredited post-secondary institution in related discipline required.
  • 7 to 10 years\' experience in research administration required.
  • Project management and leadership skills required.
  • Health centre/university experience required
  • Ability to handle competing priorities and meet strict deadlines.
  • Communicate in a professional and diplomatic manner.
  • Demonstrated self-starter and problem solver
  • Show sound judgement, diplomacy and discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Act autonomously and with independence to make day-to-day operational decisions operating within the scope of responsibility.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately in writing
  • Knowledge and ability to interpret complex policies.
  • Ability to work with a broad range of internal and external information system tools and electronic processing systems, in addition to MS Office, internet and email.
