Job Summary
The Dr. Kirk Schultz Lab is seeking a collaborative, detail-oriented Research & Operations Lab Manager to support projects focused on GvHD biomarker research. This role involves coordinating research projects, managing lab personnel, overseeing safety and regulatory compliance, and ensuring the smooth operation of the lab. The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams and cross-institutional stakeholders to advance the lab's research goals. The ideal candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-pressure research environment, and will play a key role in helping the research projects to stay on track, organized, and compliant.
Organizational Status
The Research & Operations Lab Manager in Schultz Lab is a full-time position and reports directly to the Principal Investigator of the lab, Dr. Kirk Schultz, while working closely with the trainees, research assistants, visiting scientists in the lab, and other staff.
Work PerformedCoordinate daily and long-term project activities, ensuring documentation, timelines, and deliverables remain aligned with research objectives Provide personnel onboarding and off-boarding, workplace and safety orientation Actively participate in ethics application submission preparation ensuring approval, and maintaining active ethics protocols and ensure all regulatory documentation is submitted and tracked appropriately Provide leadership in laboratory operations by setting research activity priorities, collaborating on research design with investigators, making procurement and resource allocation decisions, developing operational protocols, and supervising technical staff through mentorship and performance oversight. Oversee all aspects of biorepository management, including establishing inventory management frameworks and workflows, implementing data and documentation policies, and ensuring compliance with institutional, ethical, and safety standards. Collaborate with research teams and external partners to support project needs, resolve issues, develop and improve procedures for logistics, processing and archiving Lead the development and management of the lab's biorepository systems by establishing inventory management frameworks, implementing data and documentation policies, and ensuring compliance with institutional, ethical, and regulatory safety standards. Oversee and supervise the biosafety, chemical safety, and fire safety practices in the lab Perform data analysis and interpretation Contribute to research manuscript writing Prepare project reports, research updates, and documentation for both internal and external stakeholders Engage in collaborative meetings and working groups, helping to facilitate communication between institutions and across disciplines. Support the development of funding proposals by identifying potential funding opportunities, contributing to proposal content, and coordinating required documentation. Support data management practices, helping ensure proper handling of sensitive data and adherence to governance policies

The individual must demonstrate the ability to work independently, collaborate effectively within a diverse team, and consistently uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct. Errors in judgment or execution could seriously damage the reputation of the Faculty and University, compromise the integrity of the research, and jeopardize both longstanding and newly formed partnerships critical to the lab's continued success.
Supervision Received
This position works both independently and in collaboration with the Clinical Research Manager, reporting regularly to Dr. Kirk Schultz.

Minimum QualificationsUndergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one's own Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one's own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion

Preferred QualificationsGraduate degree (MSc, PhD or equivalent) in Biomedical Sciences or related field Experience working in a research lab Experience coordinating projects or supporting multi-site collaborations Experience hiring and supervising trainees and technicians Experience in processing and analyzing and interpreting data, and data handling standards Familiarity with research ethics processes Proactive communication and problem-solving skills * Strong organizational and time management abilities
