The Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time Research Officer position with primary research interests in aging in modern society; technology design, development, implementation, use and evaluation; older adults with and without dementia and their caregivers; and knowledge about the broader health system especially post-acute care settings (community settings, long-term care, rehabilitation).

Under the general direction of the Principal Investigator, the successful incumbent will be required to provide research, knowledge transfer, and administrative support to an interdisciplinary program of research focused on advancing the understanding of technology use to improve the lives of older adults and their caregivers in post-acute care settings and seeking evidence-informed solutions to foster inclusion and person-centered care related to older adults and technology use. The Research Officer will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing research projects focused on 1) Ageism in AI; 2) Exergaming in Long-Term Care: A Pilot RCT; 3) Innovations and technologies in Long-term Care; 4) Smart Home Technologies for Older Adults to explore Social Isolation, Mobility, and Hip fracture Recovery, and 5) Smart Home Technologies for Older Adults with Dementia and Cannabis use.

The Research Officer will play an integral role in supporting the research goals and overall study activities. The Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing is looking for someone with the background and experience to support these research projects to contribute to advancing the overall research program, including the timely dissemination of research findings. This research program is transdisciplinary (i.e., crosses disciplines and includes private and public sectors) and at an international scale, so the selected individual must be comfortable learning new concepts from different disciplines, convening with different team members and stakeholders (e.g. older adults, caregivers, health care professionals), and working to tight timelines.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Drafting and submitting documented procedures to the Research Ethics Board (REB) for approval
  • Conducting systematic literature reviews
  • Implementing and executing qualitative and/or quantitative research methods
  • Overseeing the distribution and collection of research surveys and questionnaires
  • Maintaining project records
  • Coordinating meeting schedules, agendas, materials, action and follow-up items
  • Collecting data
  • Preparing draft statistical reports and summaries from data collected
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in the health sciences (nursing, public health, medicine etc.), social sciences, health services research, of health information technology
  • Minimum two years of relevant health-related work experience conducting research, analyzing, interpreting and reporting on results
  • Working knowledge and/or strong interest in technology design and use with older adults
  • Experience coordinating research projects and implementing qualitative and quantitative research methodologies (e.g. pilot RCTs)
  • Demonstrated experience drafting summaries of research results, preparing written materials for knowledge translation purposes and conducting literature reviews
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative data collection, including participant recruitment, interpretation and analysis through coordination of focus groups, interviews, validated research questionnaires and, and functional tests
  • Experience in data management, conducting basic statistical analysis of data and other forms of quantitative data is required
  • Experience performing qualitative data analysis
  • Experience assisting with manuscript preparation and preparing materials for conference presentations
  • Experience in preparing grant proposals and Research Ethics Board submissions
  • Experience with qualitative data management packages (NVivo)
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office), database management (RedCap) and data analysis software (SPSS or SAS)
  • Proficiency with reference management tools (Mendeley, Endnote)
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communications skills (oral and written)
  • Excellent attention-to-detail and an ability to multi-task and prioritize competing demands
  • Demonstrates initiative and possesses a commitment to research work
