NAIT's Centre for Sensors and System Integration (CSSI) is one of the seven (7) research centres within the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) Applied Research. CSSI is a dynamic research centre of innovation and expertise dedicated to breaking down barriers in the world of technology, particularly in the areas of automation & digitization, sensors and system integration, AI, and emerging technologies. At the forefront of the centre's mission, we believe that innovation should be accessible to all. Our research centre catalyzes changes, fostering an environment where groundbreaking ideas flourish through collaboration and motivation. We may be automating a process towards efficiency and precision, improve an existing technology in an innovative way, integrating multiple technologies for custom application, or designing and building something novel.
CSSI is looking to expand the team's technical expertise to meet growing research needs in the areas of microelectronic systems integration, embedded systems, automation, data analytics, and customized circuit design and implementation. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge on sensors, electrical and electronic circuits, and have practical experiences in systems integration. This position requires expertise and skills on hardware design, data acquisition, and sensor networking. Solid knowledge and experience in microcontroller based complex system design and implementation will be required. Knowledge and expertise on data processing approaches including numerical analysis techniques, AI, and machine learning are necessary.
Key Responsibilities:

• The position is responsible for design and implementation of electronic control, data acquisition and communication systems, and data analytics for industry funded applied research projects.
• Teamwork with experts in innovative and novel technological solutions on industry challenges.

Skills & Abilities:
Technical Skills in the following categories are necessary:

• Electronic circuit design and simulation.
• Electrical and Electronic system implementation and troubleshooting.
• Microcontroller interfacing with windows and/or Raspberry Pi OS.
• Internet of Things (IoT) based system design involving data acquisition and system control.
• Microcontroller based embedded system design, firmware development and implementation.
• Sensor networking through wireless, cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity.
• Data analytics and programming skills (e.g., MATLAB, C++, Python).
• Solid understanding of analog, digital, and mixed signal electronics.

Working knowledge or familiarity with the following will be an asset:

• PCB design and implementation.
• Artificial Intelligence, data analytics, deep learning, machine learning.
• Finite Element Analysis simulation.
• Opto-electro-mechanical Systems.
• Power electronics and electrical machines.
• Familiarity with AWS and MS Azure platforms.
• Web and desktop based graphical user interface design.
• Higher degrees and/or several years of relevant experience.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
• Equivalencies may be considered.

Remuneration: $2,384.52 - $3,195.58 bi-weekly, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification - Job Code Description).
This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
