The Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time Research Officer to coordinate a program of research focused on trauma-informed, gender-responsive integrated care for individuals experiencing structural vulnerabilities, substance use, and mental health challenges. The Research Officer will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing research projects focused on 1) supporting trauma-informed, equity-promoting psychologically safe workplace environments for the long-term care workforce that cares for an aging population, 2) evaluating how structural system-level drivers such as policies and legislations create and maintain health inequitiesfor women involved with substance use and the criminal justice system, and 3) developing cancer screening engagement strategies to address cancer screening hesitancy for communities experiencing structural vulnerabilities.

Your responsibilities will include:





Performing a review of relevant and current research literature. Verifying the accuracy and completeness of grant submissions. Drafting and submitting documented procedures to the Research Ethics Board (REB) for approval. Following rules and procedural instructions when administering research studies. Proofing and posting adverts to recruit participants and probing for information from potential participants to determine if they meet study criteria. Designing, pre-testing and formatting surveys, interviews and other research data collection tools. Implementing and executing qualitative and quantitative research methods including overseeing the distribution and collection of research surveys and questionnaires. Collecting data, assisting with data analysis, and preparing draft statistical reports, manuscripts and summaries/materials from data collected for knowledge translation purposes, and conference presentations. Assigning and checking the work of work-study students, and directing the activities of casual staff.

Essential Qualifications:





Bachelor's degree in the health sciences (public health, medicine, etc.), social sciences, or health services research. Minimum two years of relevant health-related work experience in an academic institution, teaching hospital or comparable environment coordinating and conducting research, and analyzing, interpreting and reporting on results, with a minimum of one year in nursing research. Demonstrated strong knowledge about, and experience applying, trauma-informed principles and workplace psychological health and safety. Experience in preparing grant proposals and Research Ethics Board submissions. Experience supporting rapid evidence synthesis and scoping reviews in partnership with grassroots community based not-for-profit organizations. Experience building and maintaining relationships with diverse partners, including people with lived/living experience, vulnerable populations, intersectoral partners, and interdisciplinary researchers and supporting inter-sectoral community engagement forums and advisory groups. Experience mentoring students, peers, in research and gaining experience in community based participatory research. Experience in data management, and conducting both quantitative and qualitative analyses. Experience with implementing qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, including ethnography and community-based participatory research, through participant recruitment, focus groups and interview coordination, and facilitating co-design workshops in in-person, online and hybrid environments. Experience with knowledge mobilization and translation activities aimed at lay public, as well as researchers and/or decision makers (drafting summaries of research results, preparing manuscripts, presentations, etc.) Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office 365, database management (RedCap), qualitative data management packages (NVivo) and data analysis software (R). Proficiency with reference management tools (e.g. Endnote). Strong research and analytical skills. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills. Excellent attention-to-detail and an ability to multi-task and prioritize competing demands. Demonstrates initiative, ability to meet deadlines and willingness to learn new skills. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), with ability to work independently but also effectively as part of a multi-professional project team.

Assets (Nonessential):





Master's Degree in Public Health, Occupational Health, Social Sciences, or Health Services Research.
