Job Description

The Research Manager, Human Interaction and Experience is part of a cohesive, interdisciplinary team supporting human participant research at Sheridan.
The incumbent ensures the research projects within the human participant portfolio (which currently includes the Centre for Elder Research (CER), the Screen Industries Research and Training Centre (SIRT) and additional faculty-led projects, primarily from arts, humanities, social sciences, health, and community studies) are executed efficiently, effectively, and in compliance with all Sheridan and funder policies. The incumbent will also support the Director, Research and Innovation in the development of new projects and funding opportunities and be responsible for the coordinated oversight and management of the research projects/activities (funded and curriculum-based) across the Human Interaction and Experience research area of Generator. The incumbent may occasionally contribute ct as a collaborator on certain research projects within their domain of expertise.
The incumbent will work closely with Generator's Communications and Partnerships team to build and maintain relationships with industry and community partners, and to ensure the results of research in these areas are disseminated and shared broadly to enhance Generator's reputation and to further research collaboration. They will also actively engage Sheridan faculty, staff and students to create interest, engagement and opportunities for applied research in areas related to human interaction, engagement and experience, broadly.
What You'll be Doing

• Operational management of the portfolio to enable successful execution of research projects and other activities, participating where appropriate in the full applied research process, from start to finish, in compliance with all College and Research Office and funder strategies, policies and procedures.
• Supporting the strategic development of the human participant research project pipeline as an emerging areas of focus for Sheridan, particularly as it relates to research at all stages over the life course, from childhood to aging, which includes successfully securing research funding and related partnerships
• Developing and/or improving processes to track metrics and collect and analyze data to support effective operation and reporting to partners (funders, Research Office, etc.).
• Project management oversight which includes: the development of project scope, resource needs, appropriate milestones, and quantified deliverables; and completion of agreements, documentation and financial data.
• Supporting the portfolio's mandates and ensuring that these activities are also in support of Sheridan's broader research and strategic initiatives.
• Optimizing team performance and professional capacity through effective recruiting, workflow/project planning, employee development and performance management.
• Building internal research capacity and capabilities including the preparation and submission of proposals and other forms of documentation, support for faculty and research leads on the development of project proposals and budgets and the cultivation of strategic internal partnerships to grow the portfolio.
• Developing relationships with external stakeholders (clients, partners); participating in the development of communications, marketing and support for creating and managing a healthy pipeline of industry partners interested in collaborating and supporting the work of the portfolio.
• Engaging in both academic and public-facing dissemination and discourse about the work within the portfolio
• Performing other related duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications:

• Master's degree in a health or human development-related field from any perspective (e.g., from an arts or science lens; equivalency of field of study to be considered). A PhD in a related field of study and/or a professional certification (e.g., PMP) would be considered an asset.
• 7 years relevant experience in a research and development environment that includes project management, and applied research design and methodology, specifically with the ethical conduct of human participant research (equivalency to be considered)
• Demonstrated experience and knowledge of specific research and analysis techniques and tools (either qualitative or quantitative)
• Sound experience preparing large-scale grant applications
• Knowledge of research funding sources, research proposal writing and the development of formal research partnerships
• Experience in financial budgeting, management and reporting
• Solid management/supervision experience
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills (with all levels, students, faculty, staff, administration and industry partners)
