Hybrid role - 3 days in office - 18-month contract
We are seeking a bilingual (French/English) Research Librarian for an 18-month contract in our Montreal or Quebec City office to provide civil and common law research, deliver current awareness, and support national projects and initiatives.
Reporting to the Library Services Senior Manager, the role delivers legal and business research to support client mandates and business development initiatives.
The role requires a service-focused professional with a drive to innovate new ways to support the practice, and who embraces change, thinks creatively, and approaches challenges with curiosity.
You will be focusing on:
Conduct high-level legal and business research, often on a tight deadline, and synthesize results for efficient lawyer, client, and staff use
Ensure lawyers remain up to date on new legislation and legal developments in their practices through curated current awareness, monitoring, and media updates
Deliver effective training for lawyers, students, and staff on research methods, technologies, and resources
Assist in the evaluation and maintenance of cost-effective information services that are aligned with the strategic direction of the firm and our practice areas
Work with local and national colleagues on special projects related to library infrastructure, collection management, and resource access
Support national strategic and business plans for Clients & Markets in conjunction with the firm's goals
What you bring to the role:
Master's degree in library science with a minimum 2 years of law library experience, or a combination of relevant education and experience within law libraries
Familiarity with legal research techniques and strong knowledge of major legal and business resources, including Capital IQ, La Reference, Lexis+, Practical Law, Soquij, and Westlaw Edge Canada
Demonstrated presentation and teaching skills
Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to take initiative while participating in collaborative decision making and team projects
Interest and aptitude to establish and maintain effective working relationships across our organization
Creative and flexible thinker who seeks new or reinventing opportunities
Thrive in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities while balancing a focus on detail and accuracy
