Job Description


Samsung is building a new, forward-looking AI Research lab located in Montreal, Canada, that will conduct fundamental research at the intersection of robotics, machine learning and natural language processing. Our team is composed of world experts who collaborate with leading academic groups to create both innovative theories and state-of-the-art technological demonstrations that engender pioneering products and applications for Samsung Electronics over both long and short time scales. We are currently seeking individuals who share our passion and motivation to advance fundamental science and create revolutionary technological prototypes. Interns will have the opportunity to work with other research scientists and engineers and publish their findings in leading scientific conferences and journals.

Common Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement new reinforcement learning algorithms to learn control policies for a variety of robotic tasks, including grasp planning and robot arm motor control;
  • Develop integrated hardware and software systems to build, evaluate and refine such algorithms;
  • Conduct exploratory experiments in both simulation and on physical robot systems to test the efficacy of machine learning algorithms and evaluate their quantitative performance;
  • Collaborate with other research scientists and engineers to construct proof-of-concept prototypes and demonstrations;
  • Publish and present research results at top conferences and journals and document innovative solutions in patent applications.
Background / Experience:
  • Experience with robotic systems including kinematics, path planning and search;
  • Experience with reinforcement learning and/or deep neural networks, including deep RL, convolutional and recurrent neural network architectures;
  • Coursework and course projects in robotics, AI and machine learning;
  • Proficiency with computer and systems programming using C/C++, Python, Matlab, or functional programming;
  • Track record of research and publications in machine learning and AI conferences and journals.
Necessary Skills / Attributes:
  • Team work and good communication skills.
  • Enrolled graduate student in CS, EE, or related field.
