The Centre for Planetary Health and Sustainable Care is an interdisciplinary research and training environment committed to exploring the complex interconnections between human health, environmental sustainability, and equitable care systems. Our team spans several units at Dalhousie University and relies on insightful data to power our understanding of the environmental impacts associated with health care delivery.


Job Summary


Health Care in a Climate Crisis focuses on estimating greenhouse gas emissions and environmental impacts of surgical procedures and hospital operations. Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the research fellow will support our work in creating sustainable healthy food options in healthcare facilities and services. The research fellow will have expertise in health promotion, quantitative data analysis, and will be extremely well organized, personable and able to communicate effectively with health system employees and other organizations that promote sustainable food in health systems. The research fellow will join a larger team of health researchers and clinicians focused on research towards the development of sustainable health systems.


Key Responsibilities


Liaising with health authorities and other organizations among Canada's provincial health systems, to identify and procure food data and food policies that support an evaluation of the environmental impacts of health system operations at the hospital and system levels. Analysis of data may include (but are not limited to) data collected as part of in-patient food services, food sales data from restaurants and cafeterias in clinical environments, and food procurement data on items purchased to support food service delivery in healthcare environments. Summarizing the data analyze the data for trends and patterns and provide clear, well-written interpretations.



Note


The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.


Required Qualifications


Master's degree in health promotion (or related degree). Experience in database development and the analytical expertise to carry out analyses necessary to support estimation of environmental impacts of food. Strong collaboration and excellent written and oral communication skills
