Position Description

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the research group of Dr. Robert Siddaway in the Department of Paediatric Laboratory Medicine and Genetics and Genome Biology program at the Hospital for Sick Children. We aim to understand the diverse molecular mechanisms that underlie human health and disease, leveraging fundamental discoveries to improve diagnostic decision-making and enhance outcomes in paediatric cancer and other conditions.
Our group is highly translational, with interests including alternative splicing (PMID: 35102191), epigenetic regulation (PMID: 33277484, 36070144), and development of novel methods to enhance precision molecular diagnostic testing (PMID: 40676318, 37748705, 39568077).
Here's what you'll get to do:
Design and conduct hypothesis-driven experiments and analyses
Analyze multi-omic data to investigate mechanisms driving the development and progression of, and treatment response in, paediatric cancer and other disorders
Develop experimental, computational, and statistical approaches that can be used in clinical molecular testing
Communicate findings through presentations at internal meetings and scientific conferences
Contribute to publications and grant applications
Mentor graduate and undergraduate students, as well as clinical trainees
Here's what you'll need:
A PhD in genetics, molecular biology, or a related discipline, with experience in computational biology and standard cell/molecular biology techniques
Experience with next-generation sequencing analysis (RNA-Seq, WGS, single-cell, long-read, etc.)
Proficiency in R and/or Python
Experience with high-performance computing
A record of publication in peer-reviewed journals, with at least one first-author paper in a relevant field
Preferred:
+ Background in cancer biology and/or genomics
+ Experience in diagnostic test development
+ Knowledge of machine learning and biostatistics Personal attributes:

+ Able to lead project design and implementation
+ Strong team player who can work on collaborative projects and provide leadership and training for students and technical staff

Employment type:
Full-time temporary 1 year contract with modified benefits (with potential to extend contract based on funding and performance)
