Research Facilitator

Primary Purpose:
The mandate of this position is to provide operational and strategic support; the position is accountable for contributing to key success metrics in the college\'s research portfolio.

Nature of Work:
The position will report to the Associate Dean, Research, Graduate Programs and Faculty Relations. Responsibilities will be carried out within highly nuanced interpersonal situations and the position requires comfort and dexterity in managing competing and often novel demands.

Accountabilities:

  • Facilitate and develop potentially inter-disciplinary funding applications as well as other research funding proposals and projects; develop strategies, programs, and support systems to improve the quality and quantity of funding proposals;
  • Support, facilitate, and mentor the full grant writing process for individual faculty in diverse areas of expertise with particular focus on tri-agency funding programs, and including the managing/supporting the internal grant review process;
  • Assist with building collaborative relationships and partnerships with principal investigators and other research partners, funding agencies, industry and community partners;
  • Carry out literature reviews and syntheses, reviews of best practices, and preparation of recommendations for decision makers;
  • Provide ongoing training and support for UnivRS functions;
  • Liaise with the offices of Research Acceleration and Strategic Initiatives, Research Engagement, Research Ethics and Infrastructure, Assessment and Analytics, International Office, Research Profile and Impact, and Innovation Mobilization and Partnerships and other units/groups to monitor and report on research opportunities, resources, processes, and timelines;
  • Gather extensive information and create a database of non-tri agency external grant programs and other research funding opportunities that correspond with faculty research areas and project needs;
  • Liaise with the Associate Dean Research, Graduate Programs and Faculty Relations, Manager Marketing and Communications, Information Technology staff, the Managing Director of the BRIDGE Centre, and faculty to update the Edwards School of Business research website and create original content, including faculty research profiles and stories, plain language feature articles, etc.;
  • Compile and analyze college-specific and university-level research metrics with respect to grants (e.g. applications and funded projects), including the use of SciVal and Scopus to garner insights and comparative data;
  • Provide support for gathering and managing measures of research impact and innovation, including the creation of tables and graphs, and communication tools;
  • Provide ongoing training and support to faculty and students with respect to research ethics;
  • Contribute to the development of the research strategy in alignment with the strategic vision of the college;
  • Other projects and strategic initiatives as required.
Qualifications:

Education:
The successful candidate will have a Masters degree or higher in a relevant field (e.g., social sciences, public policy, business, etc.).

Experience:
Demonstrated record of tri-agency and other grant writing, application, and management processes; extensive experience with the University\'s research facilitation process, research services resources and structures, and UniVRS system. Experience with collecting and analyzing metrics in an academic environment, including the use of SciVal and Scopus would be an asset.

Skills:
  • Ability to quickly achieve familiarity with a variety of research literatures and contexts.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, both scientific and for a general audience.
  • Exceptional time management, organizational, project management, and professionalism skills, as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office software (word, excel, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of and experience with research related software (NVivo, SPSS), and other software such as Adobe products (Acrobat, In-Design, Photoshop) would be an asset.
