Research Co-ordinator

Primary Purpose: To provide support on ethics applications, grant writing, data collection and research coordination on research projects conducted under leadership of Dr. AG Ahmed. Dr. Ahmed\'s research program includes establishment of a Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and a Provincial Anger Clinical Research Program with electronic data repositories that provides a specialized and comprehensive assessment and treatment for individuals with SUDs and anger related problems

Nature of Work: Dr. Ahmed is currently seeking a Research Coordinator to organize research programs to advance knowledge in neurobiological basis and treatment of anger, SUD and associated psychopathology for the benefits of individuals with dysfunctional anger and SUD and achieve healthy behavioral goals. The task will include undertaking a systematic review and analysis, developing of ethics application, data collection on existing research projects, analysis of data and dissemination efforts, and linking international and national collaborators in the field. The position is of a moderate complexity. The incumbent will consult in determining appropriate action for complex issues and decisions and report to the Program Lead (Dr. AG Ahmed). The incumbent is expected to work independently and collaboratively with a variety of integrated team environments to ensure harmonization of research activities. Attention to detail, diligence, focus on quality, relatedness, collaborative mindset, and drive are necessary to ensure success in the position.

Typical Duties or Accountabilities:

Research

  • Actively participate in grant writing (preparing materials and submission to granting agencies (e.g. Tri-agency, SHRF, College of medicine, SCPOR, RUHF, etc.)
  • Writing, obtaining and maintaining ethics
  • Ensuring compliance with study protocols and timelines
  • Research design under guidance of Dr. Ahmed and in collaboration with Departmental Research Officer
  • Oversee data collection (e.g. recruitment of research subjects) and conduct statistical analysis as required
  • Creating and managing electronic data repositories (e.g. REDCap)
  • Overseeing the privacy and secure storage of data, records and documents
  • Developing Data Management Plans
  • Manuscript/report writing
  • Other Knowledge Translation (e.g. presentations) and Mobilization activities
Project Management
  • Work collaboratively with other group and Department members, across campus and in the community by establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with colleagues
  • Provide necessary work outputs in a timely manner as requested and required
  • Effectively establish work scope, timelines, work plans, and accountabilities for self and team members to ensure quality and clarity of scope for projects
  • Work with the Principal Investigator and Department to improve the quality, quantity and success of research projects
  • Maintain CVs of the PI up to date
  • Provide updates for Dr. AG Ahmed and Departmental websites
  • Set priorities, deliver outcomes in a timely manner and set/manage feasible expectations
Education: Applicants should have a minimum of a Master\'s Degree in a psychology, neuroscience/electrophysiology, nursing, criminology or a related health field.

Licenses: Completion of (or willingness to complete) grant writing course, TCPS 2 CORE ethics training and Chart Review Tutorial, fundamentals of patient-oriented research, completed training in OCAP\xc2\xae principles, would be considered as an asset.

Experience: A minimum of three years of experience working in a research environment in a university research setting; experience with interdisciplinary programs preferably in health science and/or allied disciplines, scientific writing, project management, and a broad knowledge of clinical and translational research landscape. Experience with all stages of the research progress, including question development, design, data collection, analysis and knowledge dissemination, including ethics application preparation (behavioral and biomedical). Basic experience/familiarity in psychometric evaluation, electroencephalography, Research Electronic Data Capture and other online survey platforms will be considered an asset.

Skills: Excellent written and verbal academic skills; ability to take initiative and be self-directed; effective interpersonal and communication skill; effective project management and organizational skills; ability to apply knowledge of research methodology to clinical and fundamental research questions; ability to facilitate research projects; strong critical and analytical ability; knowledge of, and proficiency with various computer applications including SPSS along with knowledge of statistics; collaborative mindset; ability to exercise sound judgement, tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality; ability to effectively manage competing interests, priorities, and deadlines with minimal supervision and within a variety of integrated team environments.
