The Opportunity

Under the supervision of the Research Director and Coordinator of Research, IWK Department of Emergency Medicine, the Research Coordinator will be part of the IWK Health Emergency Department Research Team.

The primary responsibility is to coordinate, oversee, and be responsible for day-to-day operations of the SPRINT-KIDS surveillance program; however, the Research Coordinator will support other projects and studies in the IWK Emergency Department. The Research Coordinator will assist in providing training and ongoing support for a team of research assistants and be a source of advice and direction to various stakeholders, researchers, and clinical teams.

This position reports to the Coordinator of Research, Emergency Department. However, tasks and instructions may be handed out from other team members within the department. This is a Part-time Term position working an average of 22.5 hours per week for a period of 1 year with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing the day-to-day project activities
  • Providing support to research ethics submissions
  • Recruit and enroll participants
  • Conduct chart reviews
  • Complete data entry, track follow-ups, manage data and provide general administrative support
  • Provide ongoing communication with project teams (local and national)
Hours of Work

Monday to Sunday, 22.5 hours/week, flexible.

Your Qualifications
  • Graduate degree (or underway) essential.
  • Clinical experience an asset (emergency department preferred).
  • Experience in project/program management, however a combination of experience and education will be considered.
  • Excellent leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision-making responsibilities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of IWK Health Research services, financial procedures, policies and agreements considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills managing time and determining priorities.
  • Strong communication skills suitable for interaction with patients and their family members; as well as with a variety of health professionals.
  • Ability to share information effectively and collaboratively. Working well as a team member is critical to the role.
  • Ability to work through issues and concerns with effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently with accountability, as well as work as a part of a team.
  • Ability to quickly comprehend the nature and scope of projects and activities being undertaken to anticipate own work, re-scheduling that might be required and information that needs to be transmitted to other staff.
  • Ability to work at a high level of accuracy and pay close attention to detail.
  • Proficient working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Competencies in other languages considered an asset.
