An exciting temporary part-time (12-month) opportunity as a Research Coordinator II exists in the Rheumatology Research Team at Women\'s College Hospital.

Under the direction of the Rheumatology Research Director, the Research Coordinator will facilitate coordination of the University of Toronto Rheumatology Network. This is a new, university-wide divisional network that brings together scientists, clinicians, patients and other stakeholders to promote high-quality, patient-centered research to improve care of patients with rheumatic diseases. The mission of the network is to advance innovative and collaborative research in the University of Toronto Division of Rheumatology through educational activities, as well as creation of a hub to facilitate collaborations and a network to build capacity to conduct research.

Summary of Duties, but not limited to:

o Provide general administrative and logistical support for the network\'s regular activities including monthly meetings and ad hoc activities (e.g. workshops)
o Acts as the primary administrative point of contact for network members, internal research staff and as the primary operational liaison for internal and external collaborators working with the network (e.g. other research organizations, funding agencies, regulating bodies, etc.)
o Assist with writing and submission of grant applications to various agencies, pharma companies and foundations and identify new potential sources of funding to support the research network activities
o Develop, create and maintain a website with updated information on the divisional research network activities, resources and faculty profiles
o Initiate regular updates on achievements of faculty members (e.g. publications, presentations, awards etc.) through various media outlets, such as divisional website, hospital and research institutes and social media
o Provide financial administrative support including reporting, invoicing, reconciling revenue expense reports, budget projections, and reporting on a quarterly and annual basis
o Support the development and coordination of research educational activities for faculty and trainees including the Bombardier rounds
o Develop SOPs for future research network activities including the process to support the initiation, development and implementation of new collaborative research projects
Future
o Facilitate a standardized electronic data collection through EPIC across institutions
o Responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing various aspects of data collection, management & sharing across academic institutions as they relate to research activities of the network
o Coordinate the development of inter-institutional contracts and ethics application across the academic institution for specific research projects
o Works with relevant departments to develop and establish research contracts and agreements with various external agencies and institutions

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree (Master\'s preferred) in a healthcare related field, e.g. Health Sciences, Public Health etc.
  • Minimum 3 - 5 years of progressive experience working in a research environment and/or academic hospital
  • Scientific writing skill, specifically, the ability to write and communicate effectively to scientific/technical audiences; experience in grant writing is an advantage
  • Strong knowledge of research methods and theory in health research related discipline
  • Ability to consolidate and communicate high quality science clearly and imaginatively to different audiences
  • Work efficiently under pressure with strong judgement with excellent problem-solving skills and decision-making skills
  • Knowledge of planning and management processes for research (e.g., experience with the ethics approval process, federal granting agency guidelines, developing databases, facilitating contracts, etc.), and processes in healthcare, ideally with first-hand knowledge of health services research
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and lead a wide variety of people at different levels
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative, discretion and tact
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are essential

  • Computer competency including familiarity with databases (REDCap, MS Access), EndNote, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Publisher
  • Demonstrated record of good performance and acceptable attendance will be considered as part of the selection criteria
  • Professional behaviour and communication that meets the standards of the professional regulatory college or association, as applicable, and the standards of Women\'s College Hospital
  • This position plays a critical role in acting as an advocate for safety and will demonstrate principles, practices and processes that will optimize a safe environment for all
