Position Overview
The Chemical & Petroleum Engineering in the Schulich School of Engineering invites applications for a Research Coordinator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The Geothermal Energy Laboratory is a multi-disciplinary research initiative focused on fundamental and applied research in geothermal energy systems. Housed in the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering in the Schulich School of Engineering, the Lab brings together researchers from across Engineering, Science, Law, Education and Public Policy to achieve the vision of "geothermal anywhere."
The Research Coordinator reports to Associate Professor, Dr. Roman Shor. The Research Coordinator will be directly responsible for coordinating research projects and in-scope supervision of graduate/undergraduate students, support staff and research assistants (staff numbers fluctuate throughout the year, but typically peak during the summer months with undergraduate student researchers), tracking research projects' budgets, developing proposals, conducting literature reviews, writing ethics applications, and analyzing qualitative data. The Research Coordinator will be involved in writing and developing manuscripts, research grants, project manuals, extensive literature searches, qualitative data collection (interview and focus group) and presentations in collaboration and consultation with the Dr. Shor and other faculty members. The Research Coordinator will be responsible for fostering good working relationships between research staff. Technical writing and scholarly communication is an important responsibility, including aiding in the development of manuscripts and grants. The incumbent will be involved in multiple research projects simultaneously, which will require effective negotiation and management of competing interests with satisfactory outcomes for all involved. Peak periods (typically between May and August) may be stressful as summer research students join the research team. As the research team supports field pilots, there may be required weekend/evening hours. The incumbent will deal with multiple simultaneous deadlines throughout the year (e.g., financial year-end, grant submission deadlines). The position will be situated in an environment where there may be ambiguity, continuous change and shifting priorities. It is anticipated that this position may require some flexibility in terms of hours per week (to be mutually agreed) and will require local travel and work off-campus at times.
The incumbent will coordinate all research related activities under the Lab's and Dr. Shor's responsibility, including all related support staff, coordination and tracking of associated budget, grant writing and submissions, proposal development, grant implementation, data collection, data management, literature searches, and management of research reporting.
In collaboration and consultation with the Dr. Shor, the incumbent will also lead in synthesis, scoping and systematic review of literature; in collaboration with the Dr. Shor; lead the development of manuscripts and presentation creation (posters and PowerPoint presentations), and provide technical expertise and consultation.
