This is a term position with the possibility of reappointment, subject to work performance and funding availability. The starting salary for this position is $65,000-$75,000/year.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada seeks outstanding candidates for two full-time research associate (RA) positions.
This RA position focuses on development of advanced smart yarns, smart fibers, solar cells, energy storage, and sensors. This includes interactive smart textile and apparel with embedded yarn sensors, actuators, solar cells, energy storage, and other devices. The incumbent will also investigate the therapeutic and interactive applications of this research. The incumbent will collaborate with industrial partners and with other researchers at UBC or at international institutes.
The Research Associate will work in the Flexible Electronics and Energy Lab (FEEL) at UBC Electrical and Computer Engineering, in collaboration with the SmarT Innovations for Technology Connected Health (STITCH) Research Cluster led by Professor Peyman Servati. The incumbent will directly report to Dr. Peyman Servati.
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) is one of the largest academic units at the University of British Columbia Vancouver campus, with over 1,100 undergraduate and 400 graduate students enrolled in its degree programs. The department is also engaged in a range of research activities, with over 50 research-track faculty members actively involved in their respective scholarly communities. The Flexible Electronics and Energy Lab (FEEL) is a research unit in ECE. Responsibilities
Fabrication of advanced yarn sensors and integration into textile devices
Fabrication of advanced yarn solar cells and energy storage devices and integration into textile
Optimization and improvement of performance for solar cells, energy storage, and sensor devices
Use and incorporation of novel materials, such as bio-sourced materials, advanced polymers, and nanoparticles
Designing and performing experiments; accurately analyzing the results and presenting findings
Preparing grants, assisting with grant applications and following up on the progress and success of the funded grant applications
Managing and running projects and helping graduate students with their research and their training
Publishing papers in peer-reviewed journals and presenting in international conferences
Helping in creating a collaborative, inclusive and supportive work environment
Coordinating the maintenance of laboratory and equipment
Communicating with partners in academia and industry
Qualifications
The successful candidate must hold a PhD in Materials Engineering or a related discipline. The ideal candidate should have:
3 or more years of postdoctoral work / research experience in the area of materials engineering with a focus on textiles
A history of peer-reviewed publications in the area of materials engineering with a focus on textiles
Strong oral and written communication skills
The ability to work independently and in a team environment
