The Centre of Excellence in Epilepsy at The Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital (The Neuro) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at McGill University invites applications for a Research Associate position.

The Neuro launched in 2021 the Centre of Excellence in Epilepsy, aiming at making breakthroughs in epilepsy research and translating discoveries into better care for individuals with epilepsy and their families across Quebec and around the world. Epilepsy research and care have a long-standing tradition of excellence at the Neuro. With the new centre, we hope to continue to pave the way toward a world without Epilepsy.

The Neuro is currently seeking a Research Associate who will lead the initial phase of our centre\xe2\x80\x99s development and engage in communication of the centre to affiliated researchers, trainees, patients, and other stakeholders.

The Research Associate will work in close collaboration with Drs. Birgit Frauscher and Boris Bernhardt, members of the centre as well as the epilepsy group at the Neuro, and will perform the following primary duties:

Specific duties include:

Strategic planning:

  • Work closely with the centre leadership to implement overall scientific direction, research activities, strategic action plans, governance, and priorities.
  • Ensure alignment of strategic development with other activities of the Epilepsy Group, the Neuro, and the epilepsy communities in Quebec and Canada
Communication and management:
  • Development of a robust and comprehensive communications plan (web page, social media, etc)
  • Manage centre activities, membership of the center & facilitate onboarding of new members
  • Manage communication with members of the centre
  • Position the centre as an important resource and venue for student and postdoctoral training in epilepsy in Quebec, Canada, and internationally
Research and training:
  • Coordinate national and international research partnerships
  • Coordinate development and launch of funding competitions
  • Coordinate fellowship and grant review process
  • Identify and pursue financing opportunities in partnership with government, academic and corporate entities, including proposal preparation and grant writing
This position is a contractual position for one (1) year with possibility of renewal.

Education/Experience

The successful candidate must hold a PhD degree in neuroscience or related disciplines and ideally have a degree/accredited course in management. The candidate must have demonstrated superior organizational, planning, priority settings, analyzing and problem-solving skills. The ability to communicate in scientific and nonscientific settings and build cooperative, interactive and effective interpersonal relationships is required. The ideal candidate must have demonstrated the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to manage multiple projects within established deadlines. The candidate must be able to work autonomously and as part of a team. We require fluency in both English and French, spoken and written.

Hourly Salary: $28.44

Hours per Week: 35 (Full time)

Location: Montreal Neuro.
