Your Opportunity:

The Department of Political Science at the University of Toronto Scarborough invites applications for the position of Research Associate (Limited Term) to support the development of an innovative curriculum in Public Law and Political Science. The curriculum will focus on political and legal systems and minority rights from a comparative perspective, specifically exploring the similarities and differences between Islamic and Western traditions concerning the treatment of cultural, religious, and other types of differences and disagreements between citizens.

This opportunity of a Research Associate (Limited Term) is a 3 (three)-year term appointment with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2023.

Qualifications (Minimum Qualifications):

The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. in Political Science and a record of professional teaching and research from a comparative perspective on the legal and political traditions of Islamic countries. Evidence of excellence must include publications, awards, successful mentorship and supervision of students, and other forms of academic leadership.

Candidate must have at least five years of academic experience involving the development of curriculum and supervision of students in relevant areas of political science and public law.

The successful candidate must have demonstrated experience in effective independent work as well as research; strong interpersonal and communication skills; and demonstrated ability to work positively with others in a collaborative work environment. Applicants are also expected to show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment.

Job Duties:

The successful candidate will collaborate with the Curriculum Committee and Program Coordinator to develop an inclusive and effective curriculum addressing the Department\'s mission; contribute to the mapping and design of courses related to political and legal systems, minority rights, and comparative analysis of Islamic and Western traditions, including methodological innovations in these and related areas of political science; report to the Chair of the Department , providing updates on the curriculum development process; prepare and present reports to the Curriculum Committee and bi-annually to the Department.

The normal hours of work per week for a 100% FTE full-time Research Associate (Limited Term) is 36.25 hours per week.

This is a 3 (three)-year term appointment, with the possibility of extension, depending on approval of supervisor, based on performance and funding.

Starting Annual Salary Hiring Range - CA $47,287 to $50,000
