Description:

The research associate will work with the Amr S. Helmy Group, where they will lead research into quantum photonic and optoelectronic devices. The candidate should have a track record of working on the nonlinear optics in both quantum and classical regimes. The candidate will be responsible for characterizing novel quantum photonic devices, developing new experimental setups and techniques in both discrete photons and continuous variables. The candidate should have extensive experience on (a) maintaining a broad range of lab optical and electronic equipment and facilities, including but not limited to superconducting/semiconductor single photon detectors; high power lasers and Optical Parametric Oscillators; (b) providing research support and mentorship to other research group members.

Duties:

Studying the quantum integrated devices and the practical aspects for large scale quantum enhanced systems.

Planning and execution of experiments for device characterization and proof-of-principle demonstrations.

Purchasing, maintaining, and organizing research project laboratory equipment.

Providing research project support for graduate students, monitoring technical progress of graduate students, and supporting the achievement of research project objectives

Develop and execute research vision with PI to achieve research goals

The research associate is expected to publish both at conferences and in journals

Perform other additional duties to enable the safe and efficient operation of the lab for the research project

Qualifications:

PhD in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in quantum information related devices.

Minimum of five (5) years of postdoctoral experience with demonstrated expertise in experimental quantum photonics and optics related research.

Working experience on a multidisciplinary team for large quantum information related research projects.

Experience working on industrial collaborative research.

Experience working or collaborating internationally in a research environment.

Minimum 7 years of experience working on ultrafast/femtosecond integrated quantum photonics on various platforms.

Experience working on integrated semiconductor waveguides that are functional in the second and the third order nonlinearities.

Working experience on dielectric based nonlinear optics.

Broad expertise in the theory and applications of quantum mechanics, quantum optics, electromagnetics, semiconductor physics, microwave engineering, especially regarding integrated photonics on the semiconductor platform and ultrafast quantum photonics;

Demonstrated ability to work with abstract concepts and connect these to useful quantum photonic applications including industrial collaborative research.

Hands-on experience with integrated photonic linear and nonlinear characterization in classical and quantum regimes.

Strong background in quantum mechanics/optics, electromagnetics/optical numerical modeling and simulation, semiconductor physics/processing.

Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities as candidate will be responsible for coordinating several concurrent research projects with multiple personnel.

Experience working with students and trainees in both theoretical and experimental techniques, providing research project support and trouble-shooting experiments for students and trainees.

Strong communication skills and experience preparing manuscripts for submission to peer reviewed scientific journals and research proposals to granting agencies and prospective industry partners.
