The Michael Smith Laboratories at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver invites applications for a Research Associate position in Bioinformatics to join the laboratory of Dr. Marco Marra. The successful candidate will work with a dynamic interdisciplinary team of scientists and trainees in the areas of genomics, particularly cancer genomics, and precision medicine.

Applicants are expected to have completed their PhD in a relevant discipline, such as Bioinformatics or Genome Sciences, and have at least five years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in a related research field, such as genomics. Specially, the candidate must have demonstrated experience in high-throughput large scale sequencing data analysis and data management, as well as cancer research, programming fluency, and be proficient at working in a Unix/Linux computing environment. Experience with analysis of single cell genomics data is an asset, and applicants can expect that they will be contributing to the generation and analysis of single cell genome science. Applicants are required to be familiar with biological datasets and have interest in advancing the operations of a research group with a focus on state-of-the-art computational and genomics technologies and applications. They will have demonstrated experience in translating research outputs for consumption, both in writing (e.g. manuscripts) and orally (e.g. conference presentations). Experience in grant writing is an asset.

The Research Associate will be responsible for coordinating and leading the management of the Marra lab\xe2\x80\x99s computational needs, including programming, pipeline design, testing, and implementation. They will be involved in a range of projects in both supporting and leading roles, with opportunities to learn new skills and contribute to research directly and indirectly. The Research Associate will coordinate data preprocessing and quality control steps for individual research projects, provide coding support and share knowledge and resources, serving as an expert resource. They will be expected to research, evaluate, and adopt new technologies, algorithms, and platforms as required by the science the lab pursues. They will develop and maintain databases (e.g. using LIMS software) to handle existing and incoming large-scale \xe2\x80\x98omics data, ensuring data integrity through the development of effective quality control procedures and data management activities. They will play a lead role in maintaining access to internal and external data sets, including reporting, and ensure that data in the Marra Lab are shared according to relevant policies.

Interested applicants should submit a letter of application that highlights their experience, detailed curriculum vitae including a list of publications, and contact details for 3 references. Application materials should be submitted no later than the posting end date.

This is a full-time term appointment subject to annual renewal. Salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience.
