Chronic kidney diseases are a severe and growing worldwide health challenge that affects 1 in 7 people. Without effective treatments patients can experience kidney failure leading to dialysis and transplantation, a high burden to patients, families and the health care system. Despite recent advances for certain kidney disease patients, many forms of highly prevalent kidney diseases do not have effective treatments.





Borealis was founded on the premise that a convergence of scientific and translational breakthroughs will enable RNA therapeutics to address some of the largest untreated kidney diseases and beyond. Position:



Borealis Biosciences is seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative Research Associate to join the Biology team at our laboratories situated in Vancouver, Canada. The successful candidate will help design, perform, analyze in vitro experiments, and contribute to go/no-go decisions in platform development and preclinical drug discovery programs. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in an innovative and collaborative team with deep scientific experience and a focus on patients.




Responsibilities include:


• Design, perform, and analyze in vitro and ex vivo experiments to support the advancement of platform development plan and preclinical drug discovery programs
• Apply various techniques to evaluate binding of small molecule, peptide, and antibody ligands to target proteins
• Explore in vitro systems to evaluate potency of oligos to knock-down gene targets and execute on oligo screening
• Proactively interrogate research literature and contribute to overall project advancement
• Prepare clear and concise study protocols and technical reports and maintain an accurate electronic lab notebook
• Participate and present data in team meetings
• Support training of co-op students in daily lab activities
• Contribute to and participate in the development and maintenance of a positive team-focused company culture


Location:


• This is an on-site lab-based position located in Borealis Bio's Vancouver, BC headquarters. Much of your time will be spent on conducting wet lab work.


Education, Experience, and Skills:


• B.Sc. degree in a relevant discipline and hands-on research experience, preferably in an industrial setting
• Hands-on experience in qPCR and ELISA
• Extensive experience in cell culture is strongly preferred
• Direct experience in flow cytometry is a plus
• Strong working knowledge of cellular biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry
• Proficient with Microsoft suite; experience with Benchling is a plus
• Effective time management skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment
• Comfortable with adjusting workloads based on changing priorities
• A strong team player with a passion for science and drug discovery
• Positive attitude and high personal and ethical standards


Compensation: The annual salary range is $71,800 - $83,800 and Borealis Bio provides competitive benefits including RRSP matching, extended medical, dental, vision and a Wellness Spending Account up to $1,800 per year.
