Position Overview

The Department of Community of Health Sciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for two (2) Research Associate(s), One Child Every Child. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position reports to the Principal Investigator.

In 2023, the Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF) invested $125 million in University of Calgary\'s One Child Every Child: A Transformational Child Health Research Initiative. This ground-breaking initiative will transform child health research in Canada, promote Indigenous-led knowledge creation and self-determination, and drive discovery and innovation. It will bring together researchers, community partners, health-care providers, equity deserving groups, educators, trainees, stakeholders and indigenous communities to build the foundation for global excellence and leadership in research to enable every child and community to thrive. Located in the Cumming School of Medicine (CSM) at the University of Calgary, the Alberta Children\'s Hospital Research Institute (ACHRI) is embarking on the implementation of One Child Every Child (OCEC) Scientific Strategy Plan to improve the lives of children across Canada and beyond.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Lead the development and implementation of the One Child Every Child Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Action Plan
  • Communicate and collaborate with diverse stakeholders including equity deserving communities, parents, researchers, clinicians, policy makers, administrators involved in the CFREF One Child Every Child project etc
  • Lead the delivery of the EDI strategies for the One Child Every Child project
  • Assist in ethics submissions and modifications
  • Mentor and train research assistants
  • Lead stakeholder engagement sessions
  • Collect data using a variety of methods: interviews, focus groups, survey
  • Contribute to the development of resources to build capacity and support EDI strategy of the CFREF project
  • Conducts literature reviews, literature search, article selection, data extraction and data analysis for systematic and scoping reviews
  • Recruit research participants
  • Conduct complex analysis including with NVivo data analysis software
  • Manage project documentation including protocol development, project planning, evaluation, and reporting
  • Prepare reports, peer reviewed manuscripts, presentations, educational materials and other dissemination materials
  • Assists with research data management
  • Maintain organized project documentation and maintain ongoing communication
  • Exhibit a professional and ethical attire in research and research administration
  • Prepare grant applications
  • Support community capacity building activities
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Master\'s degree in a relevant field, such as health science/research/knowledge translation/evaluation or related field
  • PhD Degree an asset
  • A minimum of 5 year in a similar role is required
  • A minimum of 3 years of demonstrated research related experience working with a diversity of stakeholders
  • Qualitative and quantitative research skills is required
  • Experience working on child health projects with equity deserving communities is an asset
  • Knowledge of EDI best practices, accessibility and human rights policies, and relevant federal/provincial legislation, in combination with insight provided by lived experiences of racism and/or other forms of discrimination
  • Ability of work independently and collegiality is required
  • A high level of flexibility and ability to adapt to changing workloads and priorities is required
  • Must maintain and respect the confidential nature of the work
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), and University applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong time management, analytical and interpersonal skills
