Dr. Alayne Adams is seeking a Research associate to support a qualitative research project on the intersections of chronic hepatitis B and immigration in the lived experience of newcomers living with HBV and policy discourse. The researcher will be responsible for the lived experience sub-study and provide additional support for the policy discourse sub-study. The position requires the ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and to conduct unstructured interviews about sensitive subject matter.
Responsibilities:
Advertising the study, including liaising with associations that provide services and support to newcomers to Canada;
Recruiting and conducting unstructured in-depth interviews with study participants;
Transcribing and analysing interviews;
Writing scientific and policy reports on the study results, including literature review;
Coordinating the research team's activities and roles;
Providing training support to a student researcher conducting a policy and discourse analysis;
Supporting the coordination and drafting of a larger-scale research proposal.
Required qualifications:
Have a PhD in the social sciences and/or humanities, and at least 10 years of experience in qualitative health research, including experience recruiting, interviewing and conducting qualitative data analysis;
Be fluent in English and French, including demonstrated competencies in editing and translation;
Have strong writing, analytical and study design and conceptualization skills, demonstrated by a record of scientific publications and successful grant proposals.
Skills and knowledge:
Proficiency in the use of qualitative data analysis software such as NVivo is required;
Prior knowledge of and research experience on hepatitis B or other chronic viral infections, and well as in the areas of immigration and health, global health, and/or inequalities in health, is required;
Experience coordinating a research team is preferred but not required;
Demonstrated skills in policy and discourse analysis are preferred but not required.
