Job Summary
The primary focus of this position will be to provide research and operational assistance for the research team and program manager. The research team focuses on a number of global health initiatives in newborn and child health coordinated centrally from the Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics.
The research assistant will assist in research projects including assisting in collecting relevant information relating to current projects, maintaining records and databases, and entering data according to established protocols. Furthermore, the Research Assistant will play a role in assisting in global health outreach activities for the research program.
Organizational Status
The co-ordinating centre is located in the Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics on-site at the Children and Women's Health Centre of British Columbia. The Research Assistant will assist the Research Manager and PI with the activities of the research portfolio.
The Research Assistant will be supervised by and report to the Research Manager. The successful candidate will work with the Principal Investigator, Co-Investigators, Research Manager, and research staff on related studies, and other clerical and administrative staff members.
Work Performed
The Research Assistant will be responsible for:
- Assist with routine tasks in data collection
- Maintains research related records and databases, entering data according to established protocols.
- Performs basic literature research, such as, searching for articles on-line or the library.
- Cleans data in databases
- Carries out any other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of positions in this classification.
- Support team efforts with internal and external partners
- Recording minutes for study-related meetings
- Organizing and participating in research meetings and teleconferences
- Compiling reports
- Assisting with the review of data collection forms
- Assisting with literature reviews
- Formatting study materials
- Organizing and distributing study materials
- Assisting with the preparation of abstracts, manuscripts, and (poster) presentations by performing follow-up and coordinate with authors, formatting documents and uploading them to the online portal.
- Ordering and maintaining inventory of study materials and promotional items
Consequence of Error/Judgement
The Research Assistant is required to conduct all activities in an ethical manner and with adherence to the Tri- Council Policy Statement concerning Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans.
Supervision Received
Works under direct supervision in accordance with detailed oral or written instructions; routine duties are carried out under general supervision.
Supervision Given
None but may explain work sequences to others.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation and a minimum one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
- University degree preferred.

  • Knowledge of research environment an asset.
  • Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Web skills (e.g. social media) would be an asset.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
