The Pet Cancer Foundation's vision is to increase the life expectancy and improve the quality of life of pets diagnosed with cancer. Estimates suggest that 12M dogs and cats are developing cancer every year, roughly 6x the number of humans getting cancer yearly within North America.
We need to do more to help our furry friends, and our new website will play a major role in providing the much searched-for information that pet owners need to help their pets live healthier, longer lives. As part of that effort, our team requires the help of experienced or aspiring research professionals, to assist in our literature review for newly published content. About the Position
The volunteer Research Assistant assists an assigned team with a variety of tasks relating to the development of content for publication. This includes searching and compiling primary and secondary sources of data including veterinary medical research studies, listings of accredited professionals and businesses, and other various information needs that pertain to pet health and animal cancers. The Research Assistant will be required to document and compile their results by preparing spreadsheets or organizing the data into formats that others will use to complete a range of assignments.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs research queries on scientific study aggregator websites, manuscript archives, veterinary college repositories, etc.
Gathers, accumulates, and uploads information to satisfy any accepted assignments. Maintains shared project folders within Google Drive in an orderly manner.
When completing scientific literature reviews on assigned topics, completes manuscript grading using PCF guidelines to justify the inclusion and use of those research studies in our work.
Maintains and ensures the safety, security, and confidentiality of PCF projects.
Attend team and organization conference calls when necessary.
Prepare articles, reports, and presentations regarding their work when requested.
Identifies and communicates obstacles and opportunities to their team leader for continuous improvement.
Performs routine duties when required to the research activities of their supervisor or team.
About You:
You are a resourceful individual, with a life sciences educational background, who has a passion for our mission. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work ethic, treats their volunteer commitment like any normal job, and finds personal satisfaction in completing a thorough and well-done job or assignment, on schedule. You are a good communicator and will be comfortable working remotely to complete your volunteer duties. You have:
A Master's Degree with experience completing literature reviews would be beneficial, however university/ college students working towards their undergraduate degree in a science or health-related discipline are welcome to apply
Ability to identify, review, and analyze topic-specific research literature
Excellent oral communication skills
Data-driven and analytical mindset
High attention to detail

This is a volunteer position, and the time commitment is approximately 4-6 hours per week.
