Research Assistant, Ucn Guide Coating Facility Support

Job Description

Research Assistants are normally students, in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate program, employed to assist with tasks related to research. Work is performed within defined guidelines and under supervision of a more senior researcher or faculty member.


Position Overview:





The researcher will assist pulsed laser deposited coatings made in the UCN Guide Coating Facility at the University of Winnipeg. They will be responsible the creation of the coatings, repairing/improving coating equipment and processes and assist in coating quality data collection and analysis.


Duties:




Assist with the "tube" coating responsibilities of the facility, which entails running the Excimer laser, loading and unloaded tubes to be coated, monitoring the facility while the coating is happening, and performing coating evaluation analysis. The person with also build and commission a new vacuum chamber in the facility. Some travel to TRIUMF national Lab, Vancouver, British Columbia may be required.

Qualifications:




Physics or engineering major with an A grade in UWinnipeg PHYS 1011 or 1301. CAD/3D printing proficiency. Able to lift 30 lbs.

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.



The period of work will be from

June 2, 2025 - September 23, 2025

and the estimated total hours of work will be

350-450 hours

.
