Research Assistant

Job Summary:

Research Assistant in the Manitoba Tumour Bank, Manitoba Institute of Cell Biology, ON6025: Processing and storing biological specimens for The Manitoba Tomorrow Project (MTP), and maintaining inventory databases on biological specimens; assisting in the day-to-day operations of the Manitoba Tumour Bank (e.g. collecting, receiving, processing and registering/ documenting biological specimens, ordering supplies, receiving and documenting work-orders, assist in laboratory maintenance, SOP revisions, maintenance of liquid nitrogen tanks, etc.), as needed; providing project assistance along with the MTP team on a variety of tasks (maintaining accurate records of participant data, obtaining physical measurements from participants, handling incoming and outgoing participant correspondence), as needed. Working evenings and Saturdays will be required.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • A university education in Science, Kinesiology, Medical Sciences or a related field to at least the BSc/ BKin level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrable experience in cell culture and processing blood and human tissue samples and/or histology
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Strong time management skills, attention to detail, ability to multi-task, flexibility, initiative and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently and able to follow detailed protocols, with minimal supervision
  • Ability to safeguard confidentiality
  • Flexibility in work hours; working in the evenings and Saturdays will be required
Asset:
  • Project management experience
  • Experience in a research-related setting
  • Experience with data collection and database management
  • Certified with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) as a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT)
Salary: Non-Union (compensation based on qualifications)
