Job Overview


Reporting to the Director of Research, a Research Assistant provides research and study services in support of specified long-term care and person-centered care research projects. This includes the screening, recruitment, and consent of research participants, and collection of data in accordance with the established study protocol and applicable Health Canada, TCPS-2 and ICH-GCP regulations.

The Research Assistant ensures adherence to departmental policies and established procedures, standards and practices.

Commit to meeting the unique needs of the residents who live at Loch Lomond Villa through a Resident Centered lens.

Conduct all actions according to the mission of Loch Lomond Villa, promote its organizational values and commitment to the corporate team.

Responsibilities



Works ensure effective communication with research team and supervisor. Participates in the implementation of research protocols in accordance with research parameters. Collection and recording of research data; provides regular reports on study progress as required to supervisor. Helps to prepare and maintain documentation related to Research Ethics Board Applications. Presents research to Research / Ethics committees and other interest groups as required. Participate in appropriate training as required, including ICH-GCP, GBA+, and TCPS-2 certifications (completed on the job). Complies with ethical and scientific standards during research activities. Day-to-day research activities, including regular communication with research participants, recruitment, enrollment, and retention of research participants; instructs participants on methods and protocol. Maintains complete source documentation and completes the participant's case report forms as required. Participates in literature research on long-term care research and prepares compressive reviews. Helps prepare drafts of research abstracts, statistical charts and posters for presentations at local and national conferences. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Review annually the Loch Lomond Villa Policy, Infection Control, Emergency Preparedness, WHMIS and any other manuals. Attend Staff meetings and complete annual required education sessions. Maintain good public relations with residents, families, co-workers, other departments and the community. Participate in and promote the Attendance Management / Accident Injury Prevention /Quality Management Programs. Complete required annual in-service/education sessions. In case of fire, or other internal disaster or community disaster perform duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:



Bachelor's degree in science or health-related discipline. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. One (1) year of research experience required. Sufficient knowledge in research methodologies to perform study tasks effectively. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to speak and write in another language would be considered an asset. Demonstrated experience in working within a multi-disciplinary team and/or framework. Knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook. Good work record and ability to attend work on a regular basis. Proper regard for confidential information. Physically able to perform all assigned duties. Must provide a Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Persons Check. Must pass a Department of Social Development Record Check. Must pass pre-employment medical.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:



Basic knowledge of health research methodologies and research ethics. Ability to recruit and effectively communicate with research participants. Strong organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to work on complex projects and meet project timelines. Ability to work well independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team environment. Pursues self-directed educational opportunities to maintain competence. Ability to anticipate and solve problems. Willingness to learn new skills as required by the position.
Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 per week
