Research Assistants are normally students, in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate program, employed to assist with tasks related to research. Work is performed within defined guidelines and under supervision of a more senior researcher or faculty member.
Position Overview:
This research assistant will conduct comprehensive scanning and documentation of available faculty and student research awards across Canadian and internationally. The RA will be responsible for systematically identifying, gathering, organizing, and maintaining information about potential awards, grants, and recognition opportunities in both database and information sheet formats.
Duties:
Conduct systematic searches for available research awards, fellowships, and recognition opportunities across Canadian and international institutions
Identify and document prestigious awards open to faculty members, including eligibility criteria and application requirements
Research award purposes, funding amounts, application deadlines, and selection processes
Input collected award opportunity information into designated database systems
Ensure data consistency, accuracy, and completeness across all entries, including eligibility criteria, deadlines, and application requirements
Create and maintain comprehensive information sheets summarizing available award opportunities
Develop clear, accessible summaries of award criteria, application processes, and deadlines
Assist in creating visual representations of data (charts, timelines, eligibility matrices)
Organize awards by discipline, career stage, or other relevant categories
Track award application deadlines and create calendar systems
Qualifications
Proficiency with database management systems (Excel, Access, or similar platforms)
Strong internet research skills and familiarity with academic databases
Experience with information management and organization systems
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Time management and organizational abilities

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Students must be approved for the 2025-26 Work-Study program. Students may be eligible for the Work-Study Program if they meet
all
of the following criteria:
+ Currently an undergraduate or graduatestudent (PACE students are currently ineligible);
+ Enrolled full-time for the current Fall/Winter session (i.e., at least 18 credit hours or 12 credit hours if registered with Accessibility Services);
+ Completed at least 24 credit hours at an undergraduate level at the University (or equivalent);
+ Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0;
+ Have demonstrated financial need (shortage between your expenses and resources); and
+ A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, protected person or an international student with a valid study permit.
- Graduate students in a joint program may only be eligible if currently registered at UW or whose thesis advisor is a UW Faculty member. Zero on all resources fields is deemed an incomplete application. As a full-time student, you are expected to have some form of funding source.
