invites applications for a

Research Assistant position

. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 8 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.


Reports to the Dr. Susan Graham, Director of the Language and Cognitive Development Laboratory. Tasks in Dr. Graham's lab are varied with moderate to high complexity - primarily recruiting participants and conducting research studies.


This is a fixed term, recurring part time position. This position requires the ability to work flexible hours, such as days, evenings, and the occasional weekend day to accommodate study activities. Overtime is not expected or required. This role will require work under direct supervision of the PI and will work collaboratively with the research team.


The stress level of the role is considered to be medium-level. The impact of error is medium-impact as accuracy and privacy of information is involved.



The primary purpose of this position is to recruit participants, conduct and organize studies for developmental psychology researchers in the Language and Cognitive Development Lab. This includes recruiting participants for studies, conducting research studies, and organizing participant contact lists, database profiles, emails, consent forms and study participation notes.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

(job functions include but are not limited to):

Recruit participants for studies from a database. Conduct research activities with participants and their families (potentially both online and at the University of Calgary campus). Working in a laboratory space providing research support in the area of early development. This requires working closely with the PIs, team members, and research participants.

Qualifications / Requirements:



Minimum Bachelor's degree in psychology or related field. Minimum 1 year experience working in a lab conducting child development or related research. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. High degree of computer literacy (e.g. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, SPSS, and online research databases). Intermediate level of expertise with Excel. Excellent organizational skills; attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal skills, including an ability to work in a team environment with research participants and lab associates. Strong ability to communicate and interact with participants and their families, as well as community organizations in a friendly, respectful, and timely manner. Ability to follow specific directions and research protocols.

Assets:

Knowledge of child development. Knowledge and skills of recruitment and selection practices of research participants. Problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Ability to work collaboratively with undergraduate students, graduate students, research participants and professors. Knowledge of eyetracking equipment/programs.
