Job Description



The Centre on Drug Policy Evaluation (CDPE), located within MAP Centre for Urban Health Solutions at the St. Michael\xe2\x80\x99s Hospital site of Unity Health Toronto, strives to improve community health and safety by conducting research and outreach on best practices in drug policy. Working collaboratively with affected communities, civil society, practitioners, and governments, the CDPE guides effective and evidence-based policy responses to substance use. The CDPE is recruiting a Research Assistant II, who will hold a part-time, temporary position at St. Michael\xe2\x80\x99s Hospital (15 hours per week; 12 months, with the possibility of extension). The research assistant will primarily focus on a study to evaluate Toronto\xe2\x80\x99s drug checking service. This position can be done remotely or through a hybrid model.
Responsibilities:

  • Supports knowledge translation and exchange activities (contributing to peer-reviewed publications, study reports, and presentations)
  • Performs statistical analysis on data (i.e., quantitative survey data, drug sample analysis data)
  • Drafts manuscripts on research findings for submission to peer-reviewed academic journals
  • Assists with the development and submission of program reports for funders
  • Contributes to the development of website content (e.g., project and publication updates)
  • Posts website content using a web-based content management system

Qualifications and skills:
  • An undergraduate degree or in the process of completing a graduate degree, preferably in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics or a related area, or demonstrable equivalent combination of specialized education and experience
  • Experience with analyzing and presenting research results, including developing manuscripts for peer review
  • Experience with other knowledge translation activities (i.e., reports, presentations, accessible materials)
  • Experience using online survey tools, such as Simple Survey
  • Hands-on statistical analyses experience using software such as R or SAS
  • Previous work with administrative data is an asset
  • Prior knowledge of St. Michael\xe2\x80\x99s Hospital\xe2\x80\x99s or Unity Health\xe2\x80\x99s administrative processes is an asset
  • Experience with desktop publishing software, such as Adobe Suite, web-based platforms is an asset
  • A firm understanding of harm reduction and the drug poisoning crisis is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills
  • Accomplished ability to multi-task, work accurately and effectively under pressure, and meet deadlines
  • Fully proficient in the use of MS Office software
