Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton, with minimal travel to Calgary possible.
The research assistant will help with two ongoing multi-site studies. One study (Pregnancy during the Pandemic) recruited pregnant people across Canada during 2020-2021 and continues to follow parents and children. The research assistant will assist with recruitment of children in the study, residing in the Edmonton area, to undergo magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans and brief neuropsychological assessments.
The second study is examining brain and mental health in youth with prenatal alcohol exposure who come to the University of Alberta for MRI and neuropsychological assessments. For both studies, the research assistant will work with other study staff (based in Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver) to recruit, screen, and schedule participants. The research assistant will lead MRI data acquisition and neuropsychological assessments in conjunction with other study staff. The research assistant will support data quality assessment, data transfer, and data management as necessary. They will also support ethics amendments, data analysis, and knowledge dissemination as necessary. The research assistant will also be required to liaise between investigators, participants and staff to ensure adherence to study protocols, as well as manage data storage and sharing. Interested candidates will also be provided with opportunities to learn aspects of basic image analysis.
The position is based in Edmonton, with minimal travel to Calgary possible.
Responsibilities:

• Recruits participants for research MRI studies, including through advertising, community groups, word of mouth, and other sources
• Coordinates and schedules study visits
• Ensures participants are eligible for the study and do not have contraindications
• Obtains consent/assent, supervises MRI scanning, data transfer
• Performs cognitive testing (after completing training) and administers questionnaire
• Uploads all data to onsite database; maintains data backup
• Acts as a liaison between research participants, investigators, and staff to ensure adherence to study protocols and accurate data collection
• Maintains ethics and study trackers to monitor enrollment/scheduling and completed data collection
• Provides regular updates to the study team on progress and issue
• Runs automated image processing pipelines (after training)

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in life sciences (neuroscience, psychology etc.)
• Experience working with children
• Experience with research ethics an asset
• Experience with cognitive testing an asset
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to take initiative and proactively solve problems
• Ability to work independently within a team environment
