Position Summary
The Research Assistant is responsible for assisting and supporting the Principal Investigator (Pl) in the overall operation of the research/project study.
Responsibilities:
Energy modelling: 60%

  • Assists in upcoming research topics related to biomass conversion processes with biogenic CO2 capture and provides specific research materials such as documents, data collection, excel sheets, and operation manuals.
  • Data collection, analysis, and process modeling of biomass conversion processes with biogenic CO2 capture
  • Update biomass conversion processes with biogenic CO2 capture models previously developed in the team
  • Carries out a literature review of various studies available and develops future projections for improvement in energy efficiencies of equipment/process on the biomass conversion plus CO2 capture pathways
  • Perform techno-economic and environmental (life cycle assessment) of the most promising biomass conversion plus CO2 capture pathways
Report/Paper writing: 25%
  • Preparation of reports, posters and presentations on existing work and progress on energy-modelling work to the Technical Advisory Committee, NSERC Alliance Program and NRCan's Energy Innovation Program
  • Prioritizes studies and associated materials according to specific deadlines
  • Writes paper to publish the results of research work
Administrative work: 15%
  • Participates in meetings to discuss new and established projects, abstract deadlines, grants, awards, and publications
  • Travels for conferences/meetings pertaining to the research clinic occasionally
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:
  • High School diploma required; Engineering student with extensive experience to perform the required tasks
  • Knowledge in biomass conversion processes with biogenic CO2 capture
  • Experience in biomass process modeling
  • Experience in techno-economic (TEA) and life cycle assessment (LCA) of biomass processes will be ideal
  • Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft programs (Word, PowerPoint, Access)
