• Assisting in the care and maintenance of greenhouse canola research trials.
• Developing, researching, and running several projects (examples, banker plant systems for pest control, trialing new pesticides, trialing biologicals/toxicity testing of biologicals, new scouting methods) to contribute to the successful completion of canola research trials.
• Contributing to the overall operation of the greenhouse, facility, and labs at the research station
• Experiencing many off-site events and opportunities such as workshops, conferences, trade shows, and tours, as well as networking with external consultants and contractors.
• Take ownership of the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program. This includes weekly scouting, biological application, pesticide spraying, and conducting weekly meetings.
• Assist with the ISO/RMS program by completing regular calibrations of scientific equipment, reviewing documents and training materials, and prepare for audits.
• Assist with sourcing inventory for all research groups on site.
• Assisting with other projects onsite.
• Maintenance, indoor and outdoor, grass cutting, snow shoveling, greenhouse repairs and upgrades.
• Completion of training courses, examples include farmers assistant certificate, working at heights, fall protection.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of 1st year Biology, Environmental Sciences, Toxicology, Microbiology, or similar program
• Experience in a research facility and/or greenhouse is considered an asset
• Grower Pesticide Safety Course certificate is considered an asset
• Ability to work independently
• Good time management, organizational and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
• Comfortable working in a variety of conditions
• Good interpersonal skills
• Meeting hosting/presentation skills
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs
